I'm looking to pickup some ps2 games, because, well....its awesome.

Can you name me some games that withstood the test of time? I have all the mgs games and resident evil 4, as well as tony hawk pro skater and FF10 and 12. As well as a few fighting games like mvc2 and street fighter.

Tekken 5... the greatest Tekken game ever and my favorite PS2 game!

Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution.... the greatest Virtua Fighter game,

SSX 3

Def Jam: Fight For NY

Burnout 3: Takedown

God of War 2.... but I would recommend HD Collection on PS3.

Onimusha series.... Why didn't Capcom make an HD Collection for the PS3?

If you like RPG's, you could try Dragon Quest 8. DQ9 was on the Nintendo DS and DQ10 is on Wii U(Japan), so I consider DQ8 the greatest in the series. I can't play mine cuz my PS2 doesn't read disc anymore. Waiting for remake C:

Original ratchet and clank is a good time. Good fighting games don't really age beyond visuals (and soul calibur 2 still looks solid). Gt3 is one of the fondly remembered installments in the racing Sim genre

I never played GT4, but my understanding is it did some things wrong, such as messing with the physics, that annoyed people. Regardless, I wasn't making a statement against GT4 (again, having not played it) - add it to the list if it's worthy :-)

Yeah I'd agree with some mistakes, but IMO it was the better game, it introduced Bob...

Not sure if you have played GT5/6 but you would know who or what he is then :p

Depends on the series. Twisted Metal Black is still the best of the series and it was a early PS2 game. R-Type Final is a excellent side scrolling shoot them up. But it all depends if you are into these series. Car Combat and Shoot them ups. There are many games which stand the test of Time on PlayStation 2.

Right? I thought this had to be a joke, but if it is I don't get it.

Anyway, some of my favorite PS2 games:

Darkwatch, Devil May Cry 3, Prince of Persia Sands of Time Trilogy, Soul Calibur 2, King of Fighters XI, Burnout 3, Motorstorm: Arctic Edge, Shadow of the Colossus.

Shadow Hearts 1 and Covenant alone are better than almost every JRPG released on 360/PS3/PS4/Xbone combined :(

Not at all

Most of them look like crap and their controls and mechanics are passable at best.

Take your blinders off and there's not much to like.

"look like crap" bro, 480i was the standard at the time, if you are stretching it out on a 50 HDTV that's on you.

The actual facts are some of the most well loved games in history are on the PS2.

To say the "controls are passable at best" is also a completely out of touch statement with reality. The fact that every console controller since resembles the PS2 controller layout is just one hint.

And which "blinders" are these?

Name a better ARPG than the Baldur's Gate DA/Champions of Norrath series?

Plenty really. Just depends on how well you can tolerate the aged graphics and controls. Controls are a bigger deal than graphics for me. I was recently playing Stella Deus and having a great time with it. Disgaea and pretty much any Atlas or Shin Megami Tensei RPG. 2D fighters don't get much different regardless of system or generation, so if it was quality then it likely still is now. Dynasty Warriors games are great and still play mostly the same now as they did back then. If you like music games I loved Amplitude and am looking forward to the PS4 remake. I second Soul Calibur and Burnout. Really there are tons of games, but it's extremely subjective.
