Kratos would actually stand a chance IF and only IF he can withstand Sephiroth's infamous Super Nova attack.brotherreese
That whole fight is seriously the definition of epic. I have yet to experience any sort of fight in gaming that has come close to Sephiroth. And I pick Sephiroth! Mainly cause I haven't played GoW 1 or 2 yet. Gonna start on that next week.
Let's be honest here, if Sora can beat Sephiroth, i'm pretty sure Kratos could kill Sephiroth.Lightning613
Sepiroth. Why? Because his sword is 7ft long while Kratos's chains are only 5ft long. So Sepiroth could take him out with a stab through the chest without having to move.Vyse_Legendskratos would use pandoras box then take the stone sword that was the bridge. Then what? kratos would have the longer sword and only have to step on him.
neither would win sephiroth cant die and when he does he comes back to life kratos well he is a god and he proved that gods can be beat superox12000
Kratos escaped hell ...twice and still had time to kill the god of war and and other charecters which i would want to spoil the stor with
I haven't played FF7 and I dont know enough about Sephiroth apart from the fact that his got cool hair :P On the other hand I own both GOW games and can confidently say that I have never seen a bad-ass like Kratos. Honestly, I reckon Kratos will win I mean his the friggen God Of War.

actully he was dethroned (is that word)in gow2.

His powers were drained into the Sword of Olympus. At the end of the game, he has the sword and more power than he had at the end of GoW1, so I would say he's far more powerful than simply the "god of war" now.
Also, Sephiroth was killed twice because he got his ass kicked. Kratos got killed because he was betrayed. Kratos never got beat by anyone in a true fight (unless you count the barbarian). I don't know about anyone else, but I beat Sephiroth with Cloud with one attack...not sure how badass he could really be with that being the case. Ruby Weapon and Emerald Weapon, two faceless with no backstory nobodies are far more deadly than Sephiroth.
For people that mention Sephiroth's sword...the Blade of Olympus is what defeated the Titans, I think it can handle a sword that's has nothing special about it other than being 4 feet too long to be practical.
nerdiest question ever

Nah, the Superman vs. Goku questions are always the nerdiest. Also, fyi, replying to this thread benefits you some nerdiness as well. ;)
It's basically a fanboy battle.
It doesn't take much of an opinion to compare:
Kratos struggles with water hydra.
Sephiroth is the closest thing to DBZ out of the two.
I don't like Kratos.
I don't like Sephiroth.
Very easy for me.

...it doesn't take much of an opinion to compare...that sentence makes no sense, think about it.
Also, Kratos's first fight in the first game is against the hydra. Meaning, it was before he had any powers other than his first magic attack. Also, maybe the hydra was hard for you, not Kratos the character, because I can beat the hydra without getting hit, so I sure didn't struggle with it, and same with beating Sephiroth.
You all say Sephiroth, but what has he beaten that would compare to a hydra, the weakest big mob that Kratos beat? Sephiroth beat some soldiers and killed Aeris while she was "praying." The only major thing he did was summon the Meteor, which did absolutely nothing because he was beaten, and the summoning wasn't his power, but the power of the black materia. (Kratos actually retains 90% of his power, even if you take away all the magic). He got his ass kicked multiple times by Cloud, so if Sephiroth is "godlike," what does that make Cloud who doesn't have the power of the lifeforce?
Don't get me wrong, Sephiroth was a great character and one of the best villains in an RPG, simply because he wasn't introduced as the "wizard behind the curtain" 95% of the way through the game. However, he was "badass" BECAUSE of his humanity aspect, not because he did anything amazingly powerful. He was much more badass after he first went insane and killed President Shinra and such than later on when he had to use the black materia to do any real damage.
Anyway, I don't know why I enter into these arguments, because I feel so ...silly afterwards, comparing two video game characters in completely different video game universes.

Oh, and Superman > Goku!
I hate them both, so pardon if I don't care as much as you and make a huge monologue out of it.:P
When Kratos can do a move called:
"Super Nova" and destroy planetS, get back to me with his human speed.
Whenever Kratos can outspeed Sephiroth (Speed is IMPORTANT), then get back to me.
Voila, ,Advent Children.

I'll fix it for him:
Sephiroth.
He's faster and is MUCH more agile.

And put my fingerprints all over it so you can use it to incriminate me?Ha!
^^i believe a lightning bolt is faster than Sephiroth (or Kratos)
Kratos can throw lightning bolts, along with an arsenal of godly powers.
supernova? he would easily go back to Olympus
3zoozM
Funny...I recall Sephiroth not taking any real dammage from a lightning bolt. Sorry. The real dammage was with Cloud's limit breaks.
As for Olympus:
Doesn' that mean he retreated?;)
Well Kratos is more ruthless than Sephiroth... Though if it was Kefka vs Kratos Kefka would poison kratos's water....kefka is 1 of the evilest(if thats a word) characters in all ff if not all gaming.FF6fan
Hitler's ruthless. I doubt he'll be able to take on someone better than him though.:|
That's why it's STILL Sephiroth.
