You have to use both of your pointer fingers, bend your arms at the elbows, insert fingers into ear canals, and press the PS button on your controller with either big toe.

Why would you want that? Is it becasue you don't want your parents waking up, when you want to play past your bedtime.

ASRCSR
How about I don't want it to wake up my son when I play late nights. For some reason it seems like he rustles a bit when it beeps.. and it is annoying.

You could always smother it with a blanket on start up.

You could also simultaneously "boop" in a deep daddy voice as to mask it from Junior's sleeping ears.

How about he turns down the volume on his TV? Honestly, some people just look for a 'flame war'. Can't you just accept his sons a light sleeper, and a beep he hears a lot is going to possibly wake him?

Actually I'm pretty sure the sound comes from the PS3 itself NOT the TV.

No kidding man! The guy asked a simple question, but people can't be happy with that. They've got to make it more interesting and make it a "flame war". How old are we here again?

Do you have your PS3 right next to your son's head?

I just don't see how that little beep could ever wake someone up and you wont be able to turn it off because it's to let you know the system ok.

That was in response to the person saying "but the tv doesn't wake him up". Nice try though.

Some people just want to be jackasses. You can't turn it off. The beep is pretty loud and can wake up a kid. I can hear the beep when my PS3 turn on from my kitchen and my PS3 is in my room.

I have the same problem but more or so with my girlfriend. To avoid having to have the beep go off, intially during the evening I'll turn it on ahead of time & have it run Folding@Home. After a couple of hours later when she goes to sleep, I just grab my controller, exit out of the application, pop in a game & voila! No fuss, no muss! Not only did I avoid having to wake her up with the fairly loud beep but I also contributed to cancer research at the same time. Can't beat that!

The beeps are even more annoying when HL2 or any other game that freezes.. Well... Freezes up and you have to reboot.. The triple "beep, beep, beep!" I can read colors and can hear a system running. This is why my PC doesn't have a system speaker for the bootup-beeps. It's also why car alarms have a silent arm/disarm mode. Some people just don't dig stupid beeps. I'm one of those beepin' haters! Perhaps a small piercing in the system speaker on the PS3 shall silence it for good.. Now, where is the damned little speaker at?! :)

I think it's a dumb feature to have. None of my other equipment needs to beep because they either have power-on LEDs (which the PS3 has) or LCD panels that make me fully aware of it running. Maybe one day we'll have a way to hack the PS3's mainframe... Maybe.

What? Seriously ..

If you're son can hear the beep, and possibly wake up from it then he could be the lightest sleeper in the world .. my mom is a light sleeper and never hears me playing late at night ..

Maybe you have it way to close to him ..

Can't believe this is a thread ..

I believe it's used for diagnostic purposes. You know how you get a triple beep if you power it down after a lock up? Dunno if you can switch it off though - I doubt it.

Kinda like PCs. The beep when it switches on can tell you what the problem is if it won't boot up properly. You can get multiple beeps, long ones, or worse of all - nothing....

You could probably open it and disconnect the internal speaker.
