Infamous 2, savefile or trophy-list?

As a new Playstation Plus subscriber i just downloaded Infamous 2. I beat the first game but sadly don't have my savefile from that playthrough (i bought a new PS3 system last christmas and at the time didn't bother to copy it over to a usb-memory). From what i understand, having played Infamous 1 and earned trophies gives ju some extra advantage when starting a new game in Infamous 2. How does that work? Does it require that i have my old savefile from the first game or does it just scan my trophy-list, if it's the first alternative i'm out of luck ;( I've heard some conflicting comments here, some say that it scans my trophy-list and not my Infamous 1 savefile and some say that it requires that i still have it on my hdd. Anyone that can shed some light on this?

I think you need the savefile but it's not that much of a big deal. You just get some stat bonuses and it doesn't affect the story in any way.
