I am thinking somewhere around 50%.
The grafix will definatly get better.

but it really does vary from game to gameGspotDeluxervery good point TC
I heard EA say thet Madden 07 only used 20% of the PS3's true power, I think it will be a few years before the PS3 elipses itself .. i hope that makes sense
85%
I don't think the PS3 is all that great for games. The cell is more for putting people on the moon.
Little gaming power, but tons other useful power!
that is actualy what i thot it ment but i was not sure. thanksGspotDeluxerNo problem man take care enjoy Gamespot
id say 60%el-tope-pr
You gotta be freakin kidding dude...he's not talking about the other systems....he said PS3. lol I think alot has to do with what type of game you are making, so the question is a very hard one to answer.
Well the Drake's guys said that they were only using about 33 percent o the cell's power, but i'll assume that the power will max out at about twice what it is now. S I'll say 50-60 percent.
On the other hand, none of us have any idea what we're talkin gabout.
How much percent of the PS3's gaming capabilities do you thing are being used?!
Do you guys even know how games are developed? ...No well, their is no such thing as a 'percentage meter' games, Sony did nuthing but pick that number out of mid air just to have something convince users that their games will be better looking than opposing companies.
Game engines are used to create games and they have in built CPU heat meters and FPS rate meters that they can keep an eye on when in development and they normaly stop adding newer meshes or updated textures when it hits a certain mark. The games will look better but not to the extent of people seem to think.
Cryisis is about 3 times graphicaly superior to Haze and that game is currently pushing all next gen consoles to their peak. If I wear to make the random gues using a daft idea of percentages I would have to say 60%, because I guarentee future games for consoles would only look almost twices as good.
Yea I think they are using about 15-30% because as a programmer we always program games, html, and other scripts at 80% lesserp3boi
As a game programmer... You my friend have prbabaly only used VB or C++ or a simple HTML code, please dont get that confused with actual game programing using a dev with a high spec game engine.
Techniquely if they are using '20%' of the PS3's hardware
3.2 ghz
64 ps GPU @ 550hz
Supposidly Motorstorm is then using a 640mhz processor with a 7 pixel shaders, I highly doubt it. And I love they way some people think that they have braught a £400 console and asume its a High spec gaming machine that would cost you around £2000.
These pointless topics are really patheticly full of opinions from un experienced children.
The Lair head said that he thinks they're touching about 50% of the ps3 with that game.
That's such a broad statement to make though. Distilling the whole games performance down to a percentage is ridiculous(even on a purely technical level*) What's going on inside your box is far, far more complicated than applying any one number.
* Much less judging a game's artistic merits by saying it's an 8.7
P.S. I didn't take the time to read all 4 pages of comments in this thread. If someone already mentioned that Lair interview, well then I'm sorry.

Now that I look, Sadikovic said it far better than I did.
One more thing that I need to get off my chest.
A developer that say its used 20% of the power from the hardware is either lazy or has been paid a lot of money to promote some sort of covincing monument that the PS3 is relying on more than anything at the moment(power).
Game devolopers make games and try to use all the power tehy can get out of a system and try their best to make it the best it can be, but for them to say they used 20% and then smile and think its an acumplishement is daft and not true. Even when you consider sequals on the same system not even one franchises has ended up looking twices as good as its predecessor.
FYI the ps3 isnt a SLI/CROSSFIRE system with a dual core processor and 4 gigs of ram with endless hard drive space so dont expect to be getting the best looking games that outclass PC.
The limit is when you get frame rate problems and glitches with textures thats when you have went over board and no company will do that.
Sorry if it looks like a rant but I just think the 20% comment is hilariouse.
When they talk percentages i blieve that they are factoring in the point that there programming may not be very efficient. I think its more of the skillto program efficiently holding them to the 20-30% mark than anything

sadikovic
U need a hug bud?
I own a PS3 and wish what you guys are saying is true, but I agree with sadikovic.
The devs of Motorstorm have already said that they didnt add split screen because that would make the game too choppy. Of course developers will be able to squeeze out some more power and write better code as time passes, so we will see better looking games in the future. But I think you're overestimating the power of PS3. (and same goes for Xbox360)
its around 20%. Motorstorm is 1st gen and looks better than most 360 games... Makes you wonder how good games will look later in the futurejunk56
lol yah buddy later in the future what about now man. y u think about future . in future for sure man graphics will be runnign smooth ath high fps and stunning graphics. now is what counts. and now is not so good.

WRONG
And the clear reason why is because that question is horrible.
First of all capabilities doesn't just mean the processor and gpu, it means all that the PS3 is capable to do. Meaning BD, wifi etc.
Second the devs DID say only 20% of PS3's power is being used. POWER, why? Because the code they make is inefficient. Not that the dev can't program, but they need to program the PS3 better to use its power. They are only 20% efficient in using its power.
