I read somewhere that a R* rep said GTAIV would be 56 hrs to complete the single player campaign on the game. For MGS4 i haven't found anything on how many hrs it would be but one of the reasons why the game is filling up a dual layer is due to the very long single player. I'm guessing less than 24 hrs of gameplay.

In GTA the are said to have close to 8 hours of cutscenes and as for 56 hours of gameplay I think that is talking about everything in the game... I doubt it would would take 56 hours to complete GTA... and as far as MGS4 I see that lasting about 30 hours and thats with the cutscenes... but that is just what I think... I really have no clue.
I heard somewhere that its around 14 to 20 hours long. But then again the number of hours of gameplay does not define the games quality, just take a look at God of War or any of the previous MGS games.
MGS4 must be pretty long if it takes up the entire bluray disc :shock:.......i'd say about 20-30 hours maybe........but if it is short like the other games i would still play it 30 times over 8)
30 hours I see it... people come on just think about the cut scenes and how long they will be... but sure the game might just be 10-15 hours if you are the type of people who skip the cutscenes... my uncle plays like that and i just look at him like 4real... u just missed the plot and then when i play and watch the cutscenes he looks so impatient like a little kid...lol
On my first playthrough I beat it in around 31+ hours, right now on my second playthrough I'm in the middle of the third act and I'm at around 6 hours approaching 7.
I think I finished it in about 15 or so hours. There was little reason to explore, with the Drebin system, and I played more action styled then stealthy. I watched every cutscene, and really can't think of any way anyone could get 30+ hours out of the mainly linear SP campaign.
Basically, the game can be as long as you want it to be. My brother completed the game in 35 hours on his first try, he's not even a good MGS player. I completed it in 20 hours on my first playthrough, 10 hours on second, now attemping 5 hours.
So basically it all depends on just how you play, either way, there's a ton of content and replay value to keep you busy.

The game is A LOT shorter than 30 hours, more like 3 and a half skipping cutscenes(at least that's what it took to get the Big Boss Emblem.
