Is there a way how I can play .avi files with my ps3? Because right now I have version 1.30 and so far I can only play .mpeg videos (like MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4) Plus when i change the file name from ".avi" to ".mpeg" it still wont play on my ps3. So does anybody know how to fix this problem?

I changed the file because theres this program on my PC that will let me change files like ".mpeg to avi" and vice versa.

basically their all mpeg files, but they the higher.. the better quality. You can tell if you have mpeg 2 or mpeg 4 by detecting it using your codec detective.

A program to just rename the extensions of files? Do you mean Windows Explorer (Windows itself...?) You must convert DIVX to MP* *=whatever you need. That is assuming it's DivX, no one uses UNCOMPRESSED .avi...really, even if there is no watermark or logo.

They really need to add support for DivX on the PS3. h.264 might have better compression but I really don't feel like converting all my videos and I'm sure nobody else does either.

Then their plan is working. I seriously doubt that the PS3 will ever play an Xvid/Divx avi natively. That would mean every pirated movie online would play then with no work to be done by the pirate. If you wanted to do it you could. I'm sure you sleep sometime right? Just do the conversions then. It would be nice if some super coder could do something like Transcode360 for the PS3.

just update your ps3 my friend, my ps3 is updated to 1.51 8)

ID : REBEL21

Ackad
My PS3 is updated to 1.51 and I'm using the red kawa program. When I try to download an avi it says something like "insert storage media", but when I select a mpg it asks me if I want to save it to the PS3 hard drive. All the movies I take with my digital camera are avi, so its a real pain to try and convert all of them. Is there a better way?

Sony systems will never support avi.  You guys think Sony just "forgot" to include support for the most commonly downloaded video file format for both the PSP and PS3?  They did it for a reason.  They want you to buy movies on dvd and blu-ray not run rips or bootlegs.
