Have you ever given into the hype and got a game you were never interested in?

I remember I thought LBP looked so dumb from the videos, but I rented it because of its appraisal I saw on the ps3 board. I was up all night making my race-car level and I really enjoyed it. I plan to buy it once the price goes down.

Also, for killzone 2. I didn't even know what it was until people started hyping it on these forums. Then I played the demo and oh my god, its amazing.

So what about you? Have you even given in to the hype? Did you regret it or were you thankful towards your informative fellow gamers?

Not me, but my brother does all the time.

Killzone 2. Honestly, if there was no hype for the game I wouldn't have gotten it...even if it scored a 10.

Nope. Not once, not ever. That way of thinking makes no sense to me whatsoever.

I buy what I'm interested in, regardless of a low score/hype. Likewise, regardless of how high the score/hype is, if I'm not interested, I don't buy it.

Crackdown. I bought it only cuz it was hyped up as a GTA style game with superpowers. Not that I regret it, it was quite a good game actually.

Yes many times. The most recent was LOTR: Conquest. I had played the demo and loved it. When I got the actual game though, I was dissapointed. And Killzone 2, but I haven't ever regreted that yet.

No I've had my own interest in every game I've bought.

To me, Killzone 2 thx to the hype that cheer me to the great FPS ever! But again, LBP, I only played it for 2 hours. LOL!

yes i bought unreal tournament 3 but there never was any hype i just thought it would be good because unreal makes some good stuff and i thought because i liked gears i would like or learn to like unreal tournament 3.

ya, oblivion for me too. i love rpgs but for some reason i cant stand oblivion, bores me to tears.

I admit I've done it recently with Resistance 2. The first Resistance was a good game, but nothing special to me, so I have no idea why I gave into the hype for Resistance 2. I have yet to even open it and I probably never will, so I'm most likely going to sell it off. I think I got excited over the 60 people online and lag free games, but I honestly have no interest in it anymore.

I've done it a couple other times as well, but for the most part I research before buying a game.

MGS4 for me, i even got the collectors edition too -face palm- i'm still at the beginning of that game. new games came out and i just didn't play MGS4, random thing is i still don't have the desire to. ohhhh well, i'm sure i'll finish the game some day.

^ this. But I gotta add that my taste in Games is really special. I enjoy Games like Disgaea 3, Dynasty Warriors 6 or Eye of Judgement a lot more than Games like Killzone 2 or MGS4, dunno why ^^

seriously? i really didnt think dynasty warrior games were any good after the 2nd game, when they were all upgrades of it further refined with next to no adjustments to the gameplay at all...

Idid, I brought Far Cry 2 (for the PC though) and it got sorepetitive after a couple of days, and I just gave up

Well, that's not true at all :S They changed a lot since the 5th part, they changed the character models, gave most of them other weapons, as allways new maps, the battles system is remade and other things. I agree that they are mostly "upgrades" to each other, but the fight agains a hell load of enemies (which increased once again :D) get me back from time to time and all of them are actually really fun to play co-op (I play about 30% of my playtime co-op an there isn't that much of a choice for us guys, good thing re5 shows up soon ^^)

Yes I am guilty of that. I bought Assassin's Creed because everyone I knew had it and said it was awesome, and personally I had never really expressed any interest in the game. I regret buying it, I owned it for less than a week, and took in to Gamestop. Personally I thought the game was awful.

Yes actually, I was looking through a Playstation Magazine and saw an ad for an upcoming game called Soulcalibur IV. I'd never heard of it but it looked pretty awesome and besides, you got to play as Darth Vader and fight some random people having nothing to do with the Star Wars universe. So I went and reserved a copy the next day and it's an all right game though definitely nothing special.
