New PS3 owner. SDTV. But a nice 24" LG 1680 x 1050 LCD monitor. I'm wondering if an HDMI to DVI connector works very well. Anyone else try this? Any success?

Also, I'd need a suggestion for the audio...my comp speakers just take a line-in plug...

HDMI and DVI will work the same. The audio may be a problem though. You can get a converter but you will likely only end up with mono sound. I have seen a converter that sends the inputs through the usb port though. You may want to look into that.

Run your audio through the computer's USB? Never heard of that...very interesting...I couldn't seem to find it either. You got a link?

Before you get that HDMI to DVI cable, make sure the monitor is HDCP compliant. It's a new security standard for Blu-Ray and if your display does not have it, the PS3 will not work with the monitor. You will just get a black screen.

As for the sound, check Radio Shack for an adapter with red/white RCA audio inputs and a 1/8" audio output. That should work for your sound. I use one with my 360's VGA cable.

My monitor is HDCP compliant and, although I'd never hear of that before, I'm glad it is :) And that audio solution sounds perfect. Thanks a ton. Now I've just got to get those damn expensive HDMI cables....

My PS3 is connected to an older type LCD TV with a DVI-port via a HDMI-to-DVI cable. It works great (no full HD on this TV, but 720p works fine). I've connected the sound to a stereoset with the normal tulip-cables (it's how we call them in the Netherlands). But for the sound to work I had to set up the routing of the sound to those tulip-cables via XMB, but that's a normal function within the PS3. DVI is basically HDMI without the sound.

Don't spend a ton on HDMI cables! Since HDMI is digital it's either on or off, unlike component which can have interfierence. A $5 HDMI cable works the same as a $105 one. Check around online for a good price. Many people recommend monoprice. You can get an HDMI to DVI cable for $11.49 there:
