I just don't have the money for an HDTV right now, but I really want a PS3. I know it won't be anything like HD, but will it still look okay on a regular CRT TV?

Yes, it will look damn good.

Before I bought a PS3, I saw my friend's 360 running on a regular TV and was shocked at how good it looked. The PS3 looks very good on an SDTV as well, so much so that I don't feel as compelled to run out and buy a monitor right now.

The only problem is that it's a little hard to read text in some games and in the APF2K8 demo, I noticed that the edges were cut off...like they built the game for widescreen and did a pretty shoddy job getting it to run on a 4:3 screen. But a lot of games (such as Motorstorm) look great.

Looks fine... It will be much better than your PS2/xbox/GC in terms of visual. It will still look next-gen (actually that depends on the game).

Next-gen games still look next-gen on a standard definition TV. All HD really brings to the table are better colors and higher resolution (no jaggies), oh, and wide screen instead of 3:4 aspect ratio.

Here's a perfect example:

When you jump in the pool, open your eyes = Regural tube/CRT TV's
Then, jump again but wear mask/googles = The look of HDTV

There ya go.

Doesn't look bad on SD, however, once played on HDTV I wouldn't want to go back. It's very noticeable to me.

There's not a big difference wheter you are playing on a "regular" tv or one that supports 720p-1080p. There is still a noticeable difference tho. At least RV6 had actually suprisinglygood guality on an HDTV compared to the regular display. And warhawk looks a little better in bigger resolutions too.

I agree with the opinions above and I'll just add mine. It's really simple. If you're buying an HDTV you should really not buy the cheapest one. I have and it's an LG 32" produced in march this year. It's fine for watching both DVD and bluray and well for games too but the black levels arent' too good and I get color banding. In gray and blue areas I can see colors overlapping unless I adjust the brightness. I sort of regret not buying a better one but I'll do that later anyways. I miss my SDTV's black levels. If you don't have an RGB cable ----get one----. You'll see it straight away. Also the bigger your screen the better it'll look in HD. It looked fantastic on my old 19" SD. But ---get the damn RGB cable---.

HDTVs are one of those things where dollars really count. The more expensive the TV, the more you'll notice the difference. I have a 32" Sony Bravia LCD HDTV and there IS a noticeable difference from my old, non-HD, non-flatscreen TV, but not a gigantic difference. Sort've like the difference between a video made from a cellphone camera recorder and a cheap digital recorder. However, if you purchased a $3,000 42" Sony Bravia plasma, then yes, you'll notice a HUGE difference. And if you had that kind of money to spare, could you lend me some? :)

Some games look fine on an SDTV other games its really ugly. You just have to rent a game or play a demo before buying to be safe.

I only have an SDTV that I play my PS3 on, but the graphics are great anyway. Of course it would be better on an HDTV, and I intend to get one eventually, but for now I'd deffinately reccomend you to get a PS3 even if you only have an SDTV.

Yea, the games still look good, but there is quite a noticeable difference between playing Heavenly Sword or Warhawk on an HDTV, as opposed to a standard television. In HD, Ps3 games really do look brilliant. I'm in the same boat as you, I don't have the money yet to buy an HDTV, but in a few months I'll get my bonus check from work (roughly $7-800) so I'll put a good down payment on a 32-40 incher in 1080p!
