I've been playing wipeout since XL and all the ones that have followed it and i can honestly say that HD is more difficult than any of it's previous versions. However i dont think is sooo difficult that the game should have a pilot assist option. I've tried it once to see how it functions and i felt it jus robs you of any challenge. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way. Chime in and tell me how you're playing.

I've played wipeout since the PS1 days and i agree, it is quite difficult.. i only use pilot assist on rapier and phantom speed classes for now... but i will shut it off soon, as it causes you to miss quite a few weapon and speed pads, as well as giving you worse cornering.

Pilot assist isnt good, if really slows you down, in a case where u get close to the side but still wouldnt crash into normally it still slows you down, but Pilot assist is good to get to know the tracks but after that you should never use it again.

One thing i miss from wipeout XL is how you could grind the walls and it not drain you shields or slow you down. Now in HD gringing the walls slows you down big time and not only that but once you start scraping, it just seems to suck you in more until you come to a complete hault. God this annoys me to no end. Great game none the less.

I've tried it (there's a trophy for it) but it holds your hand way too much if you ask me.

It's only good on venom. Using it on phantom makes it extremely hard to go straight. I played wipeout 64 as my first but have played the psp ones a lot. I'm used to avoiding slamming into walls. I made my cousin use it on splitscreen because she's horrible (even on venom).
