For me, I say no PS4 until 2012-2014. The ps3 is going strong with great games coming out like killzone 3 and little big planet 2. Also with modern consoles evolve becuase now we can improve the tech with updates and adding upgraded versions of the console.

i agree with sonys 10 year life span, but i think 360 should have a new console by 2012 cuz xbox needs blu ray, which will make sony make a new console if xbox gets a upgrade cuz it needs one

yeah i agree as it doesn't necessarily means that there won't be a new console from sony in 2 or 3 years but it means that for us people who don't got money to buy a console as soon as it comes out they got are backs :P

In 6 years, the $99 PS3 will still be going fairly strong. Consumer demand for the system increases the cheaper it gets to manufacture. It was ahead of its time, and has only really come into its own since the Slim was launched.

Yeah, because all Sony systems, so far, have lasted 10 years. PSone had pretty good games coming out until 2004 and PS2 had good games coming out until 2008.

I don't really care as I usually jump in to new gens soon after launch, but sony has been doing a great job of supporting the PS3 even while the PS2 was alive so it doesnt bother me either way.

Yes, i agree with Sony's 10-year PS3 life cycle. Furthermore, I highly doubt that Sony will forgo releasing PS3 games even if another Sony-made game system is released before the PS3's life cycle is over.

To be honest, the gaming industry is about to stop building up, but sideways. (If you get my analogy). Graphics will always be able to be improved, but really, the next gen systems are going to be next gen because of the processing power of them, because they can have hundreds of 1080p soldiers at 60FPS with explosions every half a second.

I don't see why not they have kept supporting the PS1 even after the PS2 released and stopped manufacturing it in 2005-2006 I believe, and the PS2 is still being supported.

Obviously, this generation will have a longer life span than the PS2's and the N64's. Graphics are closer than ever to photo-realism. It's at the point where games look gorgeous but they dont look so real that it becomes weirdly uncomfortable.

Of course. The PS1 and PS2 had 10 year lifecycles, so why not the PS3?

I think it's up to the customers more than Sony. If they come out with a PS4 and it's extremely expensive and requires the purchase of an even more expensive 3-D TV, then people will just keep buying the PS3 and publishers will just keep making games for it.

With Sony's track record of the gaming systems the PS3 should be around for a long time.
