Cat 6 won't hurt your PS3 at all, it just has a throughput of 1000mbps instead of the cat5's 100.

And isn't it true if your router can't go that fast then it wouldn't make a difference? Just curious.

In my experience you may get a bit of a more consistant flow on a cat6, but yeah, if you only have a 10/100 router then you won't see a big difference. Cat6 are about the same price though, so I would spring for those.

yes it is true.. you need a modem and network card that can do 10/100/1000 basicly 1000gb per second.. and even tho their are items that provide this.. its not as glamorous as you would think... :-( remember most internet doesnt exceede the 10mb barrier :-( unless your in another country..

who ever told your friend that doesnt know what they are talking about. but yes, cat 6 would be better, although, if you can get some fibre optics with an rj45 (i think thats the right one) connector on both ends, then get that :)

isnt the ps3 network card only 10/100 mb.. even if he got the cat 6 the only difference he would see is the price.. so i say get the cat 5 if its cheaper

Cat 5 and 6 should be just about the same price (I sell them every day), that's the only reason I say go with cat6. Whoever said cat6 won't work or isn't "meant" for PS3 was probobly trying to sell you the 40 dollar "PS3" cable, lol.

That sounds about right to me, I bought a new cable (Cat5) for mine, but I remember the (Cat6) were barely more expensive if at all. I can't remember why I picked the Cat5 over the Cat6, must of just been random choice, lol.

Cat 5 will be fine, but youd might as well future proof and go for Cat6. Same reason why many are goin Cat2 for HDMI.

show me anyone with a home internet connection fast enough for the differences between Cat5 and Cat6 to matter :D

I get 11Mbps (a long way off from 100 or 1000) and according to Speedtest.net that's twice the average.
