I like 1, the ones on SNES, 7, tactics, 9, 10/10-2, 12, Crystal Chronicles. Out of all those 6 is probably my favorite for SNES. I really hate 8 and Tactics Advance. I liked the graphics and world of Tactics Advance its just that the law system and experience mechanics are so stupid. Nothing could help 8 hehehe.
Final Fantasy X. I just loved all the characters (well, most of them), and while the story might be cliche, I got really into it. It's ending is also superb. FFXII and FFVII are tied as my other favorites.
FFX and FFXII are by far my two faves. I think I give the edge to XII just a bit, though, because I like the new battle system and the way it was integrated. Also the graphics, by far, were some of the best I have seen in the FF series.
Final Fantasy VI, FFT / IV, V / IX, VII, VIII, I / III, II, X in that order of depreciating value. XII I have to finish before I can make any judgments...

And what's the bifg deal about FF VIII? I haven't played it yet, but it seems that some people just love it, while others can't even speak his name out loud. And a final word: why we keep writing with normal numbers from 1 to 6, and then we switch misteriously over to roman numbers from VII to XII? xD... Square ate our brains or something?

About VIII, the marked the departure of more tradiocional SD looking characters to more photorealistcs proportions in character designs which please some people and let down some (IX was the exception, but X, X-2, XI, XII, XIII followed the new trend). VIII also had this combat system that really blew the experience for a lot of people, including me. Some people do praise the Junction, the Limit Break and the Magic system but I think it was the worst ever featured in a Final Fantasy.
In the first half of the game, when you meet a monster you would just turn after turn tediously drawing magic from them to make your characters stronger which I used to describe as "Grinding on Valium". That system also allowed to have extremely powerful characters very early in the game. Plus that you basically could "only" use limit breaks when "critical" which meant that you would seldom heal your characters to use limit break after another. To suport the system, monsters caused really low damage, so I would rarely be knocked out in this one. Magic were turned into "itens" and you rarely used the better ones because it would ruin your junctions that were so much more powerful.
Don't get me wrong, not all people think that system was bad, as you can see many people praised the game. And it's actually a good game visually from both technichal and artistic view; It featured likeable characters; It had a great plot and soundtrack. For me It would definitely make to a top 20 PlayStation games but never into my top 4 Final Fantasies.
And no you're not the only one, I also like FFTA (my favourite original GBA game) , but I don't think it even compares to VI, VII and other popular choices. About the numbers, Square always named them like that, I don't know what you mean by 1-6. No they ate nobody's brain.

You're wrong. Unfortunetly that is FFIX. I think it's because FFVIII is the most tedious, and monotenous real FF ever made. Wich makes it the worst in my book. Yes even worse than FF X-2.

I think he just thinks it's strange that virtually nobody writes FF7/FF8/FF12, but alot of people write FF5,FF6, etc. Except for the natural lack of FFIX love here there is one more thing i don't understand. Why do so many people think FFV/FFVI>>>FFIV?
Yup by just checking this thread you see a lot of people writting 7, 8, 9 etc And to be honest I haven't played IX, I'll try borrowing next year to give it a try. I haven't played I, II, III and XII also. Now, I think VI (along with X) are on a higher ground. I consider them to as close to perfect as a game can be. V and IV are almost as good, though they lack something I just can quite describe. Cecil Harvey is one of my favorite video game characters of all time.
looks like x is winning. i like x-2 as well. not because x is my fave game, but coz its a good game and sequel. 12 is the worst ive played. harsh to say worst because i like it. the storyline and caracters dpnt grab me but the gameplay is excellent
They are all damn good but X was the one, the sphere grid may be the best leveling system of all time, not to mention blitz ball, the ability to change party members in battle, Rikku's mix ability, and of course Lulu.
