Just bought R Type Delta (amazing!) only problem is that the game won't recognise my memory card even though its inmemory card slot 1. Do I need to use a ps1 memory card? I'm pretty sure its an official 8MB card as it has the sony logo on it (also says magic gate on it). I've got a slimline ps2 if that makes any difference. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Cheers.

Correct, you can store PS1 saves on a PS2 memory card, but you can not access them while playing a game. Essentially, you need a PS1 memory card.

Thanks for the help. I googled the topic earlier and came to that conclusion. Ended up buying a cheap official card from amazon. Cheers. By the way R Type Delta was well worth tracking down, its so much better than R Type Final!

In truth, say you have a PS1 memory card and you want to make backups of your favorite save files just in case. You can then copy from the PS1 memory card to the PS2 memory card just for backup purposes. You cannot access the PS2 memory card for the PS1 save files because that's just not how it works, the hardware is incompatible. You could always get a PS3 and have it work easy with no hassles.
