Hi Guys

So long story shorter, i recieved a massive virus attack a few days agothat some how managed toget through AVG/Malwarebytes realtime protection and basically ravaged my computer to pieces. So much that the likes of combofix and Gmer couldnt fix or even the support staff on malwarebytes forum. The staff told me that because my system was beyond repair i'd need to reformat.

Therefore seeing as i was using XP 32bit SP3 i thought i may as well take the opportunity to upgrade to windows 7. However im under the impression that you get theboth 32 and 64 bit OS to choose from. Here lies my problem, what OS do i use the 32 bit or the 64 bit? My hardware is capable of running the 64bit OS (Quad2.6ghz 9600, 2g DDR2, hd4780 512mb) but i have heard that compatability is a problem with some games?

I just thought 64 bit would be better as it would make the most out of my hardware and allow for futureproofing or further expansion?

What are your opinions?

Thankyou :)

not had any problems with 64bit, to be honest i dont see any reason to go with 32bit as games and applications will begin to use more resources and having the ability to install more than 3GB is always an option.

Most of today's hardware (and that of the past 4 or so years) is designed with 64-bit in mind - 32-bit has been old hat on that side for years. Only the manufacturers have kept on giving people 32-bit Windows, for the most part.

64-bit gives you the extra headroom with RAM if/when you need it - and the downsides are fairly small.

In short, go 64 bit, there's nothing to lose.

64-bit by far.

32-bit only supports up to 4GB of RAM, whereas the 64-bit Home Premium edition supports up to 16GB and the Pro/Ultimate editions support up to a whopping 192GB of memory. Talk about future proofing!

Compatibility issues with modern (XP+) software? Nil.

64bit. Only reason I got 32bit was because it was the only one avaliable through school, cost $25.

Go 64-bit. I'd been holding off from going 64-bit for a few years until this past month...I was under the false assumption that some of my older 32-bit software wouldn't be compatible. I wish I would have done some reading earlier on. Windows Vista and 7 64-bit both run 32-bit software. I'm still learning. :) No sense in limiting yourself with a 32-bit os.

go with the 64x

but my advice to you see if you can upgrage your MB\s Bios first before you install it.

I did with my Formula 3 MB and worked like a dream.
