Which is the better MOBO and why? Between a MSI P35k Deluxe MOBO and a Nforce 680i.

P35:
- Penryn support;
- Lower power consumption;
- High overclocking headroom;
- Near useless mult-GPU support--'broken' CrossFire and no SLI

680i:
- SLi support;
- Good overclocking.

I dont think theres something else beside that. If you dont have any plans to run SLI then i'd go with P35 and you can always get dual-gpu on one card like 3870x2

As already said, get a P35 if you're not going to use SLI. The 680i boards can be a bit flakey, 780i is far more stable but also more expensive :(

IMO the only reason to go possibly 680i at this point is if you're very sure you want SLi. Otherwise, P35.

P35 performs better, is cooler, and overclocks much better. 680i should really only be a consideration if you plan to use scaleable link interface.

780i is a waste of money though. The x38 (and soon x48) can be found for the same price or less and offer far superior performance. Unless you want SLI, that is.

All that 780i really is is an update to the 680i, they added PCI-E 2.0 & penryn support, anda third PCI-E x16 slot. They don't even have DDR3 support, which is ridiculous considering that it's supposed to be an enthusiast board. Anyway, the nForce 790 series is supposed to have that.

that's cool, but it doesnt really matter that much because when you get to "nicer" chipsets all the OC'ing limits are usually from the components. I'm not saying the 780i is worse than a P35 though. But I think the 780i isn't really worth the investment unless you want to do 3-way SLI.
