^^ question

For me when I bought my first computer back in 2001.After that I didnt even look back to consoles. I began shifting alot away from consoles back when I got N64 after learningI need a memory card to play my saved games. I use to rent games alot from the rental store. It just pissed me off I couldnt replay the game after I turned it off. After that I became more heavily into pc gaming using an old computer my dad handed down to me after he bought a new computer. PCs dont need a memory card to save your games you just had a hard drive. As soon as I finally bought my own computer I became a pc only gamer after that.

I was a PC only gamer in the N64/PS1 era until this gen i have owned a wii console (first console i have owned). I havent played any N64 game although i have played a 3 or 4 PS1 games. I havent played any PS2 game too. I was really a pc only gamer. But in the N64 era i have owned a Gameboy Color when it came out and also play it always back then.

Don't modern consoles all have hard drives nowadays? So that argument may be moot. Besides, there are far too many great console exclusive games that you would be missing out on if you went pure PC gaming. I will say this though, I spend a fair amount on building a high end gaming PC because I do consider that my primary platform. When the new generation of consoles get released, I usually end up buying the previous generation console for less than $100 and the hit games for that console for ~$5 each on eBay.

I started PC gaming back in 1994, just about. I became a PC-only gamer since the last day I ever played my Sega Megadrive - I don't remember when that was, either. I have played a few N64, PS1 and PS2 games since - I just never actually owned any consoles.

that is really true. I havent played LoZ: OoT, Perfect Dark, Golden Eye, FF 7, etc. I regretted it.

What N64 games were you playing? I can only think of maybe 3 or 4 games that required a memory card, all the rest were saved on the cartridge itself.

anyways, I'll never be PC only simply because I don't want to miss out on the great console exclusives like Zelda. I started getting into PC gaming about 2 years ago. We got a new computer, so I started tinkering with our old one and got it to run alot better than it ever had. I borrowed Half-Life, Fallout 1&2, andDiablo from a friend, bought Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, and had Tie Fighter already, so I spent the next summer playing all those. Since then I've been on the lookout for more of the great PC games that I missed out on.

The only time I ever play console is at my friend's house or with my roommates. Never owned a console in my life, either.

Dont get me wrong, nothing is better than spending six hours in a row playing coop Gears of War and drinking beer at your friends house, ive just never felt the desire to buy one.

I've been a PC gamer since 1992 in any serious way. I've been a regular video gamer (as in owned my own console) since 1999. I'm still on the fence as to which is "better". They both have their good points and bad points. I'm actually rather content with my PS2 at the moment. There are so many games out there that I still haven't touched.

1996, thanks to Quake and Quakeworld. Then Threewave CTF. Then the original Team Fortress came out for Quake. Then Ultima Online, Quake II, Everquest, Half-Life, DAoC, Homeworld, Shogun:TW etc., etc. The goods haven't stopped flowing so I've no reason to look back to consoles. Plus, consoles don't have my favorite genre: Combat Flight Sims.

That's pretty much the same as saying 'A real gamer plays ALL games, regardless'. I hate cars, and wouldn't waste my time playing a racing game. Does that make me not a gamer? NOTHING on consoles interest me in the least. Does that make me not a gamer? I can't help that consoles don't even have one, not even one flight sim. Not my fault. Does that make me 'not a gamer'? BTW I had a Sears pong system as well as the C64. But the question was PC gaming. C64 isn't a PC, as the IBM PC1 was the first true PC.

What N64 games were you playing? I can only think of maybe 3 or 4 games that required a memory card, all the rest were saved on the cartridge itself.

Mediocre_man90

I rented a few games that did require a memory card. The only game I owned was Goldeneye.

I know x360 and ps3 both have hard drives in them so the memory card is obsolete. Another problem with consoles is their prices. Console games cost $10-20 more then a pc game. They also take a long time to come down in price. I am so use to pc gaming the keyboard and mouse have became instinct to me. Playing on a game pad is just alien to me. I could lean back to consoles if they started using keyboard and mouse.

I've been playing games ever since I can remember, but I became a more or less 'serious' PC gamer in 1997. It was Age of Empires that started it, then a quick sucker punch by Starcraft followed by a roundhouse from Baldur's Gate and a finishing blow delivered by Thief: The Dark Project. Before I knew it I was researching and playing the older pc classics and selling my consoles for more money to upgrade my PC.

SNES was my last console. I think the game to convert me to a PC Gamer was Quest for Glory I. This was probably in 1992 or 1993.

To be honest, as far as I can remember. When I was 5 I played on a commodore 64 and haven't made the switch yet. By the time I was 10 I owned NES as well as all my friends and upon noticing how 'stupid' they were becoming, I returned to the pc. Shortly thereafter, I was playing such hits as Myst, Police Quest, Magic Carpet, Flight Simulator, etc while reading Encarta, Cinemania, and using Corel Draw and Word/Spreadsheet 95.

Fast forward to today and still doing the same thing. On occasion you have the now and then game such as Gears that sparks my interest. But now I hear it's coming to pc so nothing has changed for me. LOL

I don't play PC games exclusively, although I would consider the PC my primary gaming platform. I first started getting really into PC gaming around 1993 or 94. Back then I was really into X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Wolfenstein 3D, Dark Forces, and Doom. PC gaming reached its apex in the late 90s with classics like StarCraft, Total Annihilation, System Shock 2, FreeSpace 2, and Half-Life. To be honest, I was so completely into PC gaming in the mid to late 90s that I never even played anything on the N64 or PS More recently,I bought an Xbox and a GC, and currently I have the Wii and X360 in addition to my gaming PC.

Since the first day I laid eyes on Dune II in 1992, I've been a PC only gamer - no other platform for me - I hate the wonky controls and content-for-everyone attitude of console game production. Having said that, I have played Goldeneye and Mario Kart with friends (N64) and more recently the Halo series LAN with friends on Xbox but I wouldn't call myself a console gamer in the least. Long live the mouse and keyboard, who needs that lame semi auto-aim of Halo! My biggest test is going to come in a few weeks with Halo 3 cos I really want to find out what happens, damn you Bungie and your addictive universe!

I think it was 1984 when I got aPC-XT with 512k ram and a floppy drive. It came with a monochrome monitor but either that PC or maybe it was the next one I got a hercules card for so I could play games with graphics such as they were at the time. My first PC didn't have a hard discdrive nor did I have a mouse since MS-DOS didn't need a mouse. I've been playing games on PCs ever since then.

The following year saw a huge upgrade to a AST Premium/286 with 1 MB of ram which I think I needed an add-in board for, MS-DOS 3.3 I think it was, a Paradise EGA card for 16 color displays and an EGA monitor to match. This one had a huge 20 megabyte Seagate hard disc also. I was in heaven.

It was not long after this that something called Windows/286 was on the market and ran on top of MS-DOS along with Microsoft's first versions of Excel and Word which came in huge boxes and cost over $300. each but since I worked for a little chain called Egghead Software at the time I got all that stuff for free, not that I had much use for it then but it was fun to play with.

The rate of change and advancement in just a little over 2 decades has been truly amazing.

I use to have a 386sx ( a very costly item in Pakistan at that time ).

By the way, my first ever electronic game paly was on a nintendo game and watch in 1981.

I have had every console ever made except the PS3. I even had the c64 cartridge console, neo geo and a 3do lol. This generation of consoles though is by far the worst ever imo. Almost every game released is nothing more than a remake of old games with fancy graphics. Nothing really new.

I sold my 360 a few months ago, bought a new pc and will always stick to pc from now on. I will keep the wii for my kids but for me the pc is king. We get almost all of the console exclusives at some point, well xbox ones atleast. The pc provides the greatest gaming experience i could imagine with plenty of past, present and future classics.

I do admit though, i will find it hard to resist a PS3 when a new final fantasy is released and i will find the wait for Fable 2 on pc even more unbearable lol.

I am not bashing consoles here, the pc just gives me what i need as a gamer. Consoles just can't. So i guess the answer to the posters question is this year, 2007 is the year i become a pc only gamer.

When I was 3...

So 1992.

Yup first ever system I played on was an ancient IBM computer lol. And all I really did was mash the keyboard and find out what sounds the comptuer made if you held down to many buttons, or what each one did. Ended up deleting a whole bunch of files lol.

Twas console gaming, and proper PC gaming when I was 5.

When my dad showed me Heretic back in... was it 1996, I was immiedately only for PC's.

I also feel that the console controller doesnt fit in to my hands. I also get uncomfortable whenever Im holding a console controller.
