As the topic says, your single scariest game ever, what is it? Feel free to mention any game moments that scared you too, just be sure to mention spoilers first :P

My scariest game ever is Penumbra Overture. I just beat it, and every step i took deeper into that mine, the more the dread grew of what I would find. Awesome game.

the penumbra series is a good pick ^^

My personal favorite is System shock 2, that game had me nervous for half the game :\

Silent hill 2 is also pretty good...

While STALKER is tense I would not call it scary, but you might want to include it ^^

STALKER freaks me out on a subtle level. It's not really scary (except for the laboratories), but the games make me feel terribly uncomfortable the whole time due to the immersive atmosphere and your own vulnerability as a player.

the scariest game i have played is Dead Space (and the only one) this has some minor spoilers.. in the beginning there is a hallway that is closed off with pipes and other stuff, theres an opening and if you go near it one of the monsters runs past it from the other side that almost made me fall of my chair :(

STALKER: SoC has scared me the most of anything I've played. Although, I don't play many horror games, so my experience is limited.

I haven't played many scary games for a long time. But of the more recent ones, I have to say Doom 3. I am sure there are scarier out there, but that's the scariest game I have played in the last 5 years.

Dead Space. Playing Dead Space with headphones makes me paranoid.

Doom 3 was a little scary but it was the cheap scary where things jumped out at you all the time.

I think one of the scariest games I've ever played was the panoramic horror game Scratches. Although it wasn't the scariest, I got an error on the game that made it one of the scariest moments I've had playing horror games. Long story short, I manuvered through something (I won't go to far into detail for the sake of preserving the scare for the people that play :)) to get to a point where there was no option to move or turn at all. It seemed like there should have been a cinematic or something but nothing was happening for about 30 seconds. I alt-tab out to find that there was a windows error that stopped the game. So I started it back up, got to the same place and it seemed like the same thing was happening. I sat there for another couple seconds getting ready to alt-tab back, and out of nowhere scary horror music turns on and you see something move in front of you. I almost had to stop playing for the night :D.

I dont know really. Tie between Doom 3 and STALKER on their first times through. Metro 2033 had a lot of scary points too.

Whiteblade999

I agree that Quake was scary, when I was young those zombies scared the crap out of me. The scariest, though, would probably be System Shock 2. I'm only on the second level and I can only go about 5 minutes before I have to turn on the lights and quit. And then I'm looking over my shoulder for the next half hour lol.

Metro 2033! I expect something horrible to pop up every time I turn a corridor or enter a tunnel. Any post-apocalyptic-game is usually depressing/scary for me.

Metro 2033 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R: SoC withc Complete 2009 Mod. Now the atmosphere and setting of these games just add more to the scary factor. Very pressing and unusually depressing games, especially Metro, which by the way was quite the surprise for me this year.

While the game wasnt actually that scary, i completely s**t brix at the mannequin scene in Condemned 2.

Even to this day the first Underground lab part in STALKER:SOC still scares me, but the most scariest game i have ever played would probably be F.E.A.R.

I have not played the Penumbra series and probably never will (don't really like scary games anymore)

EDIT: I can't believe i just said THAT

Penumbra sounds good..

Thief III in the asylum/orphanage part. The first 30 minutes is just exploring the place but that whole time I was always on edge looking behind my shoulder.

Games don't scare me in the traditional horror sense. Screamers, walking corpses or the dark don't work on me. I guess I'm more into the sense of uncertainty, dread and atmosphere that makes you feel uneasy. Few games do that and none of which I can even think of right now.

Again, not really scary, they just creep me out. Walking outside the Mage Guild and being confronted as soon as the area loads "Dagnoth Ur will rise" kinda creeps me out.

Edit: And to put this into prespective, the next "scariest" game I've ever played is Resident Evil 4... which I ended up laughing whenever it tried to be scary. Good game, just not scary at all.

I don't think I've been more creeped out than I was by the original Alone in the Dark when it first came out. Games like Resident Evil after that simply reminded me of Alone in the Dark.

Recently? Dead Space is legitimately scary.
