800x600. if the game supports any resolution lower than that then i'll use the lower. i need all the fames i can get with my nVidia GeForce FX 5200. lol
My games are usualy 1280x1024,but if game is not running smoothly on that res,than i lower it to 1024x768,or 800x600(yeahhh i know that 800x600 sucks :p)
Ha ha, I remember gaming on my family computer that had a 5200, and I feel your pain. That computer barely gets a playable framerate on doom 3 at rock bottom settings (all of the people look like chipmunks). On my computer though, the highest I can go is 1440x900, but for newer games I usually go to 1024x768.
1600x1200 - Samsung 204b 21inch... which is a great monitor and seems to run lower resolutions better than any other LCD i've had before without the blurry effect
1280 X 1040 I can run somewhere in the 1900X 1400 range but I see no point too.. With AA and AS on you will not notice a difference between anything higher they will all look real sharp..
1024x768. I prefer quality over "quantity", and anything higher just doesn't look that much better to me to be worth the performance hit. On the other hand, in multiplayer, I like to crank up the res and turn the details down (more pixels, less distractions). Oh, and my Radeon 9800 Pro runs Oblivion with Low quality at 800x600, so I'm happy. :)
On this PC, 1024x768 is the highest I can go due to 17" monitor resolution restrictions. However, I often have to set it lower-down to 640x480, even-to even get a chance of getting decent framerates with modern games, and even that isn't enough in most cases. My legacy PC has a good old shadow mask CRT monitor that goes all the way to 1600x1200, but the PC itself is far too weak to run any game at that high of a resolution. I'm about to get a new PC, though-one that should be able to chew through any game released in the next year or two at 1280x1024 for sure, and probably even 1600x1200 or even 1920x1080i as well.
Desktop i run everything at 1280x1024 as that's the max my monitor supports (also all my games have settings on max. The joy of my new computer). Laptop i play CS: S at 1920x1080 at max but most others i play at lower res
Most of the games I'm playing are a little older but I found that I can even run Tomb Raider Anniv., FEAR and GRAW in my new monitors native resolution of 1600x1050. I kiss my ATI X1800 every time I fire one of those up. ;)
I can fondly remember not so long ago when Quake set the new standard by giving you a high resolution 640x480 option. When it first came out most games were still stuck in DOS 320x200 land.
These days I wouldn't even play a game that didn't run well in 1280x800 as a minimum.
Computer Monitors have been past "HD" 1080p for quite some time. Most refer to the higher computer resolutions as Super High Definition. I also play in 1680x1050 and loving it.
1440 x 900 (native). Too poor to afford bigger monitors. If games don't run well at that resolution, I trim down on some settings instead. I tried playing DoW on non-native resolution once. The horror. The horror.
