Only because I have none of the other games, but will have the whole HL2 series when I get the Orange Box :)
while i think half life is probably valve's best game, i think half life 2 is their finest achievement
can you imagine how difficult it must be to sit at a roundtable discussion at valve, after half life
they'd basically be like, okay, we want to follow up half life by creating a game which is as good - preferably better, but is not merely a repeat of our previous work, as this invariably leads to mediocrity
great, okay... so... how do we do that?
following up one masterpiece with another masterpiece may seem natural for such a talented developer, but really, i think it has to be just the most difficult thing in the world... making a game so amazing that it fills the boots of its predecessor while also being a game that people acknowledge as its own game, and not just as a sequel
half life 2 could so easily have been more of the same, and yet it is an utterly unique title - not just unique when compared with its predecessor, but with the entire genre as a whole - and i think that is one of the most difficult things for a developer, not only that they were able to do that but that they chose to do that... so many other developers would have said, half life worked, let's just make another game like it
but valve didn't, and that's why i think half life 2 is the finest achievement valve has had to date
portal and episode 2.
Portal was so short, but that is greatly overcome by its quality and freshness!
portal isn't multiplayer, jackass.JakeR413

Yes it would.....exit portal over lava, then pop the entrence under a running victim!
Imagine 32 player portal DM it wouldn't work. Too many portals, seriously. The game would freak out, I bet everyone would go into infinite loops on the fly. You'd have to limit it to a few players.kyrieeeThere are many ways on how to make Portal work in MP: 1. The game contains one portal gun only. You have to kill the one with the gun to get it. The only way to score is by killing people using the portal gun. The one with this gun loses all his other weapons 2. All players has the gun (max 8 players though), but the gun has recharging time, so whenever you shoot you have to wait 30 sec before you can shoot the second shot again. Whenever a player dies, so does his portals 3. Team based. One player from each team gets a portal gun (when this player dies the gun is automatically given to another player on the game at random). The player with the gun doesn't have other weapons. It's his job to help the other team members finish their mission. Here the gun doesn't have a recharging time Just to mention a few But sure, a MP game with 32 players all with a portal gun would be a nightmare (unless the recharging time is one minute for two shots, and the portals automatically goes away after 30 seconds... then it might be possible)
Team Fortress2 - A unique game thats good fun and humerous to play while also being a great team based online game, something that you don't see often today.
Portal - A puzzle genre game thats average but made special by the addition of a unique and intuitive method of puzzle solving combined with humour aswell which relieves some boredom value players may experience.
HalfLife: Episode2 - HalfLife was a masterpiece then Valve shocked us all with improving on it with another masterpiece in the form of HalfLife2. And Episode2 seems to be a big improvement over HalfLife2, if a little shorter, which i think is why i choose it over HalfLife2 itself.
