Video Card(s) for Laptop?

Hey All,

I am new to PC gaming so please bare with me. I have a HP Pentium D desktop with just the stock factory video card in it (so I assume it would be more cost effective to replace the whole thing to be able to play new(er) games on it. And I am more in need of a laptop (my 1st). So, what is a good baseline, say model numbers-wise, for NVidia or Ati cards to go by when it comes to a video card that would smoothly play games from '07 on?? Also, just since the brick and mortar stores carry so many of them, should I even be considering an Intel-made card? Finally, anyone have any recommendations as far as a good gaming laptop for a G or less?

Stay away from Intel integrated graphics. I've spotted a few laptops on Newegg that carry the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650, which should get you some pretty good performance for under a grand. Also there a quite a few with GeForce 8600s in them, you'll want to check those out as well.

To "smoothly play games from '07 on" you will need at least an 8600M GT 9600M GS or an HD3650, or of course better.

This means you will need to spend at least $1200 or so. Go to newegg.com and look at models such as this Asus.

Thanks for the input so far. I have heard a lot of good things about newegg before. Will def check it out. About how long would one of these cards last me before I would need to get a new laptop? (heard the hardware can't be upgraded on them)electronic_eye
