THis really amazed me. I plan to upgrade my rig in a month or so for Crysis, but for now I have a 9800XT, 3.2GHz P4 and 1GB of ram. Basically min requirments for UT3 plus a little more. Now the demo doesn't allow me to enable the huge ammount of bump mapping and such that I'm sure other cards allow, and of course I don't get shader model 3. However, what the graphic options I do have available, I've been able to max out at 1024 with fairly smooth framerates. Here's a pic (not the best, I went pic happy and didn really know if UT3 saved em in a folder, it didn, so this was the last one I got).

It really isn a good pic to show the game, but as u can see, it does look fairly good and it runs smoothly for a rig thats about 5 years old now and barely above min specs. The Unreal engine is pretty damn insane.

UPDATED PRETTY SHOTS FROM SECOND PAGE (remember, still all running on 5 year old rig, barely above min specs, ingame was higher res at 1024, these shrunk to 640*480):

Nice, awesome optimization. The demo wouldn't run for my PC, but I have similar specs and a 6600gt instead, but it does have SM3.0

hmm as far as I know the 6600 meets the specs, so maybe it's a driver issue or something? But yeah, the game is crazily well optomised and scales amazingly. My friend was playing it on a higher end rig then mine, about 1500AUD (maybe $1000 in amerca), fairly new, max 1 year old hardware, and he was literally able to max everything and it looked amazing and ran perfectly smooth.

I'll get some more screens tommorow, that show this better, I'm really very very suprised at the performance.

lets hope it runs as well on full release...I hate it when demos run beautifully but then the full game runs about half as well :(But Unreal 3 engine should work well.

Yeah, it runs and looks kickass. I was on that Chinese/Japanese map yesterday, and, quite simply, it looks incredible. The distant scenery is breathtaking - with the lighting from behind the mountains and that deep valley below... it all looks brilliant. Not to forget the UE3 water effects aswell, that waterfall just looks too damn good. IMO, though this will vary with other people, UT3 looks better/is on par with Crysis.

its a big I think a few people have been getting because I checked the support forums and people were getting the same issue as me. Maybe if I get it from a differnet place it will work

Here's some more screens I just grabbed, keep in mind this is running on close to the min requirments for this game. Also, I've scaled down the screens a bit for this forum. I'm running at 1024*768 ingame while these have been scaled back to 640*480.

I'd also like to say, the game handles sooo much better then 03 or 04, a tad more like the original UT. The pace seems faster and the controls tighter, which is awsome. The weapons also feel more solid. So yes, getting good UT vibes here, might be return to form for the series.

There's a UT2007-er, UT3 demo out? As much as I'd love to play it, I don't even want to think about how it'll run with a system only packing an Athlon XP 1800+, 512 MB of DDR-266, and a 9600 XT. I can't even get a constant 60 FPS in UT 2004 half of the time... ...on the other hand, when I splurge 1700-1850 US$ on a new gaming PC by the end of this month, I probably won't have to worry about performance going by your comments, even on "HOLY *excrement*!" settings.

The SUSPENSE map is amazing. The lighting is crazy and textures on the gun are phenomenal. My only problem with the demo was that i could barely connect to any matched. couldnt get into any team deathmatch

crysis is definately better looking in terms of reality but the two have completely different art directions and as such should not be compared.

How would the following specs sound for a PC of that price? -Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (I hope UT3 can use all four cores!) -2 GB DDR2-800 SDRAM (thinking Crucial Ballistix right now, though I'm sure there are many other good sets to choose from) -ATI HD Radeon 2900 Pro (may get a GeForce 8800 GT instead if it's out when I decide to splurge) -Auzentech X-Fi Prelude (Hopefully, UT3 supports EAX 5.0 like Bioshock does. They're both UE3, right?) -500 GB 7,200 RPM SATA drive of some sort (Don't know whether to go WD or Seagate.) -Abit IP35 Pro or Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 (I'm still up in the air about which I want...the IP35 Pro is cheaper and does the job just fine, not to mention μGuru, but the GA-X38-DQ6 has a ton of USB ports on the back, as well as PCIe 2.0 and reported ease of overclocking.) -PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610 (This PSU should give me plenty of reliable power to spare, though routing unused cables may be a bit of a pain.) How would this specs list compare to your friend's PC? (And before the rest of you bring out the flamethrowers, yes, I know this isn't the PC Hardware Discussion forum. But I'm trying to get a good idea of what specs one would need to play UT3 well, okay?)

It ran magnificantly for me at max settingson a:
7900gs pci e 16x 256mb PNY
amd athlon 64 3700+
2 gigs of corsair dual channel (2x 2x512)

Why is it though......that SO MANY GAMES have to be so resource heavy for graphics that are just as good as UT3's, or just a little bit better? Development like that sort of gets me POed...

DriftRS did you play online or offline when you got those decent fps results? If so then there is something wrong with the UT3 engine because I have a ATI AMD Athlon64 3000 2.0ghz/1 gig ram/ ATI X850XT 256mb Pci-ex16 and I get 10-26 fps whenever I try to play online. If I play Instant Action then I get 29-41 fps easy with 12 players on DM.

I tried the following resolutions and each one gave me the EXACT results:

800x600

1024x768

1280x1024

I even lowered the world/texture detail to 1 and get decent fps until I play outside where the vehicles and explosions are or when riding a hoverboard.

See, this is why I think there was a Microsoft-Epic conspiracy about Gears of War. The Unreal 3 Engine could barely run on the 360, but now it runs on an older vid card

It deserves Goty because it's well optimized? Also the textures in that demo is rather shiiit tbh. And TC did u run fraps when you played it? Cause I did, and with my 3ghz,9800xt 1gig ram I got craaap fps at that resolution, between 15-25 and even lower when playing against alot of bots/ppl online.

Hi again guys, sorry kinda went to bed (was 1am) but back now, I'll try an answere some of these questions that popped up.

Hey DriftRS what video settings are u using on the demo?TheCrapp

Maxed at 1024*768 with all the settings it allows my rig to support. So maxed texture and environment detail, maxed post-processing option (though I have no idea what that does exactly), and maxed whatever else was available, although I forget what everything else is. However, even so it can't look as good as it does on newer hardware, it seems the Unreal 3 engine simply doesn't let older rigs enable settings such as the great bump mapping and parallax mapping thats supported by the engine, or shader model 3, but thats more because my GPU doesn't support it.

[QUOTE="inyourface_12"]

[QUOTE="Indestructible2"]9800XT,1GB RAM and P4 3.2 max out UT3 @ 1024x768? I have a very hard time believeing this is legit.Indestructible2

Did i say ANYTHING about SM 3.0? NO i DIDN'T,don't put words in my mouth...

I did max it as I've said before, however only upto what it allows me to max. I suspect there's some options it's hidden from me. Anyway who cares, just have a look at the pics if you want to know how it looks. It's running like that at 1024 fairly smoothly, it's a great engine.

I even lowered the world/texture detail to 1 and get decent fps until I play outside where the vehicles and explosions are or when riding a hoverboard.

DeltoidRecon

I'm playing it offline with bots. I didn't think online and off should cause a dif in framerate, the GPU and everything shouldn't be any more taxed with online play. infact without the AI calculations the CPU shouldn't even have to do as much. Odd, but I'll try out online and see what happens.

Im trying to run UT3 Demo on my new rig.

Specs:

Quad core

8800GTS

4GB Ram

I get a d3dx10_35.dll error. Does anyone have a solution to this problem, because im a really big fan of UT and i want to play the demo today.

Go download the latest version of Direct X. That might fix it.

What might the newest version of dx ? Because i run Lost Planet in DX10 and i get no errors.

Get the 163.75 drivers if you haven't yet, maybe then it will work.

That's pretty crazy... maybe there's still hope for PC developers actually optimizing their games.

[QUOTE="ruuuj"]Yeah, it runs and looks kickass. IMO, though this will vary with other people, UT3 looks better/is on par with Crysis.DragonfireXZ95

Um no it doesn't. I am in the beta for Crysis and I also played the beta demo for UT3, Crysis still has better graphics.

I don't think Crysis looks better. Plus looks don't mean **** when you're game runs sloppy.

That .dll file is definately from DirectX. I've gotten that error before, I just searched google for the latest update of Direct X and it was fixed.

I'm not surprised, all of Epic's games have had amazing optimization.

I knew of people in the UT2004 community running on integrated graphics chips...

Are you running with an nVidia card? Apparently, a shader optimization issue has been causing hiccups for some. There's an .ini edit that could potentially fix the problem for you. I'll try and find it and edit my post.

Edit: See here. Read the first post to find out how to edit your .ini, then read the 2nd post for a potential fix for your problem.

DriftRS, I have the same specs as you. I can confirm that running at 1024x768 with max settings is possible - and it gives around 27-30 FPS on average.
