I think you can set up a dual boot, where you would have two partitions, one with XP the other with Ubuntu on it...

I should think so... You could choose when you turn on the computer by tapping F8, or F11 depending on your motherboard...

yes it is possible i have the exact same setup on my laptop. The way i accomplished it is, with my Windows XP CD, I went to reinstall my Windows XP operating system. when in the reinstallation setup screen, somewhere along the lines you have options to wipe your hard drive, and partition it. then you can partition it. then after reinstalling windows xp, you put ur linux cd in and install it on the other partition then after both are installed, when you start up your computer it asks you which operating system you'd like to use and if u dont choose, after 10 seconds it goes by default to ur primary one. ubuntu is a great linux, very very easy to use and very very nci

You definitely could. Ubuntu comes with an easy installation setup. The thing I don't like about it though is it overrules the Windows boot loader, replacing it with GRUB boot loader. But there may be ways to change it back to Windows loader though, I'm not sure. Ubuntu wasn't stable on my 5 year old PC, so I had to get rid of it. Make sure to keep a backup of your system, for you may want to switch back to just windows!
