I have a regular 1 tb hard drive. If I added a 256 gb ssd hard drive, what programs and files should I move to the ssd to speed up my computer some?

Any that traditionally take a long time to open or load. Games and Adobe products come to mind.

I put my operating system on the SSD (as should everyone) and then some programs I use often, like web browsers, VLC media player, mail, steam etc.  I also put a couple games on the SSD, ones I use often.  You don't really see a performance bump in the games but for something like Eve Online where I'm alt tabbing and checking websites while playing etc. it runs really smooth.

All I have on mine are Windows and Steam. Go for them.

i put one in  my GF's PC, and it helped Borderlands 2 boot speed and her photoshoping by A LOT. she loads teh game and maps about 5-10 seconds faster then my pc (she has an i7 920, 12gb RAM and a GTX 275, so not much different to mine). Photoshop now no longer seizes up on massive pictures as she draws them

That is a huge SSD. Install your OS on it and all your programs. Use the HDD for media storage, output folders, and such. The SSD won't speed up games, but everything will load faster, and having the OS on it will make your whole experience slicker.
