So my GTX 580 died....

Well as the title suggests my GTX 580 died today after a couple of years of good service. I was going to wait for the next gpu's from Nvidia to be unvailed but now I can't wait for that long.  Would a GTX 680 be a nice upgrade compared to the 580 or should I just get a GTX 660 TI which to my understanding is similar in performance to a GTX 580 ( correct me if I'm wrong :p).

What I would to also mention is that my card is still under warranty so I won't be paying full price for the GTX 680. That bein said a friemd is suggesting me to get a GTX Titan since il will only have to fork out just 500 to get one.

My specs are in the sig. Guide me to a good choice :p

Titan is very good, but you can do better with 670 SLI or 680 SLI.

Thanks for the input guys might just get the GTX 680 now and SLI down the road when I get a better PSU as I'm not sure it can keep up

Thanks for the input but the problem is were I'm taking my card for warranty the 4GB GTX 670 costs more than a GTX 680. Should i still go for the GTX 680 or a 2GB GTX 670?

how does a graphics card die in less than an year?  My AMD cards have never and i mean never died on me.  On the other hand ive had one nvidia card blow up on me, the geforce 6800 go.  If the manufacturer will replace the card with a newer one then go for the 670.  No point going sli as its not worth it.

too much power draw/heat, cost to operate is around 30% more expensive per year, hit or miss with games support, plus other issues.  The biggest downfall for me is that the new generation cards come out and a single card is released that rivals the previous generations dual cards.  Ex, the radeon 7970 is as fast as a geforce 590 which is around 10% slower than 580 gtx in sli. Im predicting that next gen the new Radeon 8970/geforce 780 will likely be as fast as a 7990/690 within 10%.  You can quote me on it.

Yeah I know AMD runs hotter and draw more power this gen, but going dual card setups with either AMD or nvidia will still cost alot more $$ to operate.  Plenty of games have issues with dual cards.  And as I said the 7970 is as fast a geforce 590/radeon 6990 (dual card gpus) while only being one generation newer. Dual card solutions are a waste of money imo, thats the bottom line.

A single GPU is often a better option since it wouldn't cause as much problems as SLI. Some games don't like it.

He also would enjoy better memory specifications on a Titan - more bandwidth, bigger interface width and lovely 6GB of VRAM.

My 670s combined are usually under 500 watts and I tend to get to low-mid 70c which is impressive for dual cards. And pretty much all the games I've played with SLI didn't have problems with it, SLI has improved a lot from previous gens. And I get above Titan performance for 800 bucks, go me!

680 is a great, quiet and cool card. 660ti SLI would be excellent.
