Well as the title suggests my GTX 580 died today after a couple of years of good service. I was going to wait for the next gpu's from Nvidia to be unvailed but now I can't wait for that long.  Would a GTX 680 be a nice upgrade compared to the 580 or should I just get a GTX 660 TI which to my understanding is similar in performance to a GTX 580 ( correct me if I'm wrong :p).

What I would to also mention is that my card is still under warranty so I won't be paying full price for the GTX 680. That bein said a friemd is suggesting me to get a GTX Titan since il will only have to fork out just 500 to get one.

My specs are in the sig. Guide me to a good choice :p

If you can get a 680 without paying any money get a 680, or a 670 if you want something slightly cheaper.

Get a overclocked 4gb GTX 670 and then go from there.

It's a good option in terms of price to performance. Maybe look at 4GB versions?

Titan is very good, but you can do better with 670 SLI or 680 SLI.

Really GTX 680's are a waste of money when a slightly overclocked 670 perform as well as a 680. plus you can grab 4gb models of the 670 cheaper then 2gb versions of 680's.

Thanks for the input but the problem is were I'm taking my card for warranty the 4GB GTX 670 costs more than a GTX 680. Should i still go for the GTX 680 or a 2GB GTX 670?

how does a graphics card die in less than an year?  My AMD cards have never and i mean never died on me.  On the other hand ive had one nvidia card blow up on me, the geforce 6800 go.  If the manufacturer will replace the card with a newer one then go for the 670.  No point going sli as its not worth it.

Why not?:(

too much power draw/heat, cost to operate is around 30% more expensive per year, hit or miss with games support, plus other issues.  The biggest downfall for me is that the new generation cards come out and a single card is released that rivals the previous generations dual cards.  Ex, the radeon 7970 is as fast as a geforce 590 which is around 10% slower than 580 gtx in sli. Im predicting that next gen the new Radeon 8970/geforce 780 will likely be as fast as a 7990/690 within 10%.  You can quote me on it.

Power draw and heat? AMD GPU's run hotter for the most part. GTX 670 sli does not draw a lot of power, and heat is not even a debate. Hit or miss with games support? I'm just going to dismiss that as an AMD fanboy jab at Nvidia. Comparing 7000 series to 5xx series. Okay now...

Yeah I know AMD runs hotter and draw more power this gen, but going dual card setups with either AMD or nvidia will still cost alot more $$ to operate.  Plenty of games have issues with dual cards.  And as I said the 7970 is as fast a geforce 590/radeon 6990 (dual card gpus) while only being one generation newer. Dual card solutions are a waste of money imo, thats the bottom line.

My 670s combined are usually under 500 watts and I tend to get to low-mid 70c which is impressive for dual cards. And pretty much all the games I've played with SLI didn't have problems with it, SLI has improved a lot from previous gens. And I get above Titan performance for 800 bucks, go me!

If he has the money to blow on a Titan, he should get a Titan. For a single GPU solution, GTX 670 sig2 or 7970. For multi-GPU, GTX 670 sli. Seeing as how GTX 670 sig2 is fast as a GTX 680 out of the box, and cheaper, there's no point in buying a GTX 680 at all. On top of that, the Sig2, overlocked is faster than the GTX 680.

If value for money means anything to you, get the two GTX 670s in SLI. if you play at high resolutions, get the 4gb card, otherwise get the 2gb version. If value for money isn't a concern for you then the Titan is the obvious choice.

A single GPU is often a better option since it wouldn't cause as much problems as SLI. Some games don't like it.

He also would enjoy better memory specifications on a Titan - more bandwidth, bigger interface width and lovely 6GB of VRAM.

They should be around 350W or so... 170 or 175W TDP for the 670. I assume you run them at stock speed as well.

I run dual 560 Tis (large power draw) and don't have any issues with power or heat. I wouldn't worry about that if you have decent ventilation and a name-brand PSU with enough watts.

680 is a great, quiet and cool card. 660ti SLI would be excellent.
