Are PC Games a dying breed? :(

It annoys me you would even consider it. I honestly believe anyone who thinks so is on the low end of the gene pool.

please dont think im being patronising
but, IF you are new enough to pc gaming, it is understandable that you would think that. however when you have been playing them for a while, and seen a million of these threads saying that pc gaming is dying, you cant think that
pc gaming will always live because of:
superior control
superior graphics
mods!!

Guys, calm down! He just asked a simple question. No wonder PC gamers have such a bad reputation...

It isn't that he asked, it's that plenty of people ask the same question. If these people had the IQ to actually look up PC games even here on Gamespot they would see that we usually still have more exclusives than any single console.

wouldnt r time be better spent hunting down the filthy pirates instead?Yeah, lets make them all walk the plank!
Instead of opinions from people that do not even research for either good or bad things about PC gaming, here are some facts. You decide what they mean:
In 1994, 15 years ago, there were 30 PC titles that sold over 1 million units (In 2008 4 PC titles sold over 1 million units). Magazines like Computer Gaming World reviewed over 400 PC games Some of the hit games released include:
Doom
TIE Fighter
System Shock
1942: The Pacific Air War
Star Trail: Realms of Arkania
X-COM: UFO Defense
Panzer General
NASCAR Racing
Lords of the Realm
Goblins Quest 3
The Way Things Work
X-Wing Collector's CD-ROM
Under a Killing Moon
Creature Shock
Sam & Max Hit the Road
Beneath a Steel Sky
FIFA International Soccer
Aces Of The Deep
Colonization
Descent
Alone In The Dark 2
Desert Strike - Return to The Gulf
Jagged Alliance
Jazz Jackrabbit
Legend of Kyrandia, The - Malcolms Revenge
For the whole of 2008 Gamespot reviewed 52 PC games, and the average review score was just 69.5%.
Gaming Excellence a site that used to be PC only, but like most sites , now multiformat, reviewed just 44 PC titles.
Just spend some time looking is all I ask - before you make an opinion either positive or negative about the state of PC gaming.
The above facts show what is going on. The numbers speak for themselves. I give no opinion.

Yes it would. I would actually like to see pirates executed.
i like it, straight to the point and no sugar coating
Macutchi
Yep, some like it, Gamespot mods usually don't. Many seven day suspensions have been had.

I don't like pirates either, but I think execution is just a wee bit extreme.

It is extreme, but I think it would work. With pirates we aren't usually talking about hardened criminals here, I bet if little Billy sees his friend hanging from the tree in the yard for pirating that cool new game he might think twice about doing it in the future.

Dude, I would stop now before you're moderated. Just a word of advice.

Astaroth2k
That might work. We could also take a hand off, kind of hard to use a keyboard with only one hand.

I thank you for the advice and concern but I have stopped caring about the mods here a long time ago. I don't go looking to get modded, I just say what i want and let the chips fall where they may.

from where did you get the fact that 30 games sold 1 million in 1994 ? If the above games are the ones that sold 1m+ , I highly doubt. many games above like SS, X-Wing Collector's CD-ROM etc AitD 2 etc didn't sold > 1m+ afaik. Doom which was arguably the most high profile release that year is just slightly above 1 million afaik.
Since sales does not really matters, let's talk ratings :
I just checked game ranking for PC 1994 --- it does not looks to be higher than 70%. Also remember that few of these games like adventure games or the flight sims would have scored lower if they came out since the gaming reviews have become too mainstream. So, I don't see what could you proove by taking 1994 as an example.
Now lets take different years1998 v/s 2007 (gamerankings)
1998 - above 90% : 4 , 2007 : above 90% : 18
1998 - above 80% : 75 2007 : aboe 80% : 95
Now personally speaking, I can easily agree that despite the above scores, PC gamin in the 1990's was much better than pc gaming in 2007, but nothing was really better than pc gaming in 1995-2000 (gaming wise). But this desn't means PC Gaming is dying or anything. if it did then it would imply gamign in general is dying as games in general were better than they are now
Ya know...
The best way to respond to a question of this nature is to not respond at all. Then the thread dies a quick death. Anybody who responds to this thread is doing a disservice to the forum, er... except me of course.
Yeah, the PC is dying. God almighty.

No, but I want the drugs that could make me think so.
Nope, PC gaming isn't finished. I'm pretty sure I just finished playing some games and it seems alive and well.HondaSnake
Are you sure they wern't just faking it ?

It was the Illuminati using freudian and MK ultra techniques i bet.
yes, they are dying, the 11 billion profits from 2008 definately prove that :roll:GTR2addict
I guess if it had of been 12 bilion that would of been something, but 11 is just fail.
They aren't dying but they are in bad shape. In fact, after years of highly buggy, blatently unfinished, or broken titles that still don't work after being patched I recommend you buy the console version of any given title. Prettier pictures are not justification for paying $50 for a game that probably doesn't run well and is made mostly of stuff you did in other games. Save yourself some frustration, buy the console version, drop the disc in the drive and play.
Developers and distributors really need to re-evaluate how the develop these games. If not that, then lower the price. $50 is too high for broken products.

Your forgetting about people who don't own a next gen console. If you think i'm paying $400-600 for one game your out of your mind.
PC gaming has been "dying" for nearly a decade.
BlueBirdTS
Just below two and a half decades, actually.
