I just installed a bunch of games I got for Christmas but still have plenty of hard drive space free. When I was playing one I minimized it to check a tip online and when I got back into it the game kind of stuttered and then froze. When I restarted I could hear the PC startup but the monitor was acting like nothing was plugged in. I tried restarting and nothing showed up still.

After I turned it off for a while and turned it back on it started working again. This same thing has happened a few more times and with different games. If I'm just browsing the internet or watching videos my PC works fine. I tried the built it windows disk check and it says everything is ok.

Any ideas?

List off specs of your system as well so we can have an idea of what you're working with.

Still a continuing issue for you?

Here are a few guesses:

  1. overheating GPU - have you monitored your temps while gaming?
  2. failing GPU - handful of issues can happen here: Video cuts out, artifacting, video freezes
  3. failing PSU - issues providing proper load when demanding hardware needs more power (i.e - playing video games)
  4. possible bad video cable or monitor - sometimes these things fail. Try swapping out video cable or using a different monitor.
