I think my cpu is bottlenecking my card? I don't see a huge difference in  games, what do you think? the thing is my board doesn't support core 2 duo.

What resolution are you using? There should be a big difference, especially at higher resolutions and AF/AA on.

Well maybe you just aren't graphics demanding person. Just like me. I have the same problem. I hardly noticed anything with a jump from 9600pro, to x1950pro and new computer you can see in my proflie. i hardly noticed any difference.

1360x768 widescreen, 4xAA/AF.  Even company of heroes says 'average' in the performance test, with mostly max settings. Would I get more from a core 2 duo, or am I expecting too much? I upgraded for Crysis and Bioshock mostly. Maybe I need to reduce my resolution?, also playing Rainbow 6 at 1280*800 all max, I get about 20fps, I expected more.

ok it's my CPU, I got a score of 4527 which is terrible. I got less than 1 fps on the cpu tests !!   now I need a new motherboard, similar in size to my ASRock 775-Twins. Any recommendations? I spent so much on my graphics card, and now I need a new CPU/Motherboard.

Yup. Your CPU suck. And bytheway, it is normal to get smewhere around 1 FPS in CPU test. CPU isnt design to run gfx. I get 10100 points in 3D Mark 06 everything at stock speeds. 8)

Well you can spend just over $200 and that would be a good upgrade, or you can spend all the way up to $300ish.

$100 Gigabyte DS3 rev 1.3
$115 E4300

or if you want to spend a bit more on the processor-

$166 E6320
$186 E6420
$224 E6600

Or if you can wait until July 22 you can get a Q6600 for $266 and the other processors will be even cheaper.

HOLD ON!! That's normal. The test is capped at 1 fps! What OS are you using? Vista? XP?

yeah I realised that from an earlier post. I'm using Vista but even that is only a 7% drop in frame rates, I'm also using the latest nvidia drivers. My 3Dmark score is really low.

lol, yeah it's a 8800gts. It has to be my CPU. But I wonder how many extra fps i'd get if i got a c2d. I don't want to waste money even though it feels like I already have. Even with Qarl's texture pack installed with Oblivion, there's no or little difference than my 7600GT. I feel sick.

which means a new motherboard, aaaaargh, how much of an increase in frames would you'd say I'd get?  percentage wise? I know, it's hard to tell.

Well i saw a test where they were comparing CPUs. PC whit Athlon X2 3800+, got 40!!! FPS less than E4400 CPU. So i would say that it would be something similar in your case. But not in games where you get only 50FPS. But in games like FEAR etc. where you get like 110FPS.

People are too optimistic here. If you pick a Core 2 Duo E4400 for example, you can expect a 20-25% increase in framerates. Going from 20 to 24 fps isn't going to be that much of a difference. I think your problem is elsewhere...

40 fps ... like 250 instead of 210 fps right?

And only with older games at low resolutions. Most games are more GPU dependent and will only show a marginal increase with a better CPU, especially at higher resolutions.

I had a Pentium D way back, and even then I didn;t that bad FPS.

Try overclocking that Pentium D to 3.7-4.0GHz (need good cooling though).

I just tell what i see. I cant remeber the site. I think they were testing Prey, or something similar. WHit X2 3800+ they got 84 FPS,a dn whit C2D E4400 they got around 120 Frames. Thats what i was talking about.

Don't jump the gun and buy a new motherboard and cpu just yet. It would really suck to see that you spent all that money and realize that you could've had good performance with your old parts.  I don't want to get in trouble for suggesting another site, but the members at overclock.net are always helping people out people with problems like these.  I'm not spamming, I just think it would be a good idea to ask as many people as you can before spending too much money.

Okay so you don't have a Pentium D 3 ghz, just a Pentium 4 3 ghz HT. That nearly cuts your CPU score in half. In that case, a CPU upgrade sounds appropriate.

I though that the Pentium D was just 2 P4 cores on one chip!? [correct me if i am wrong] IMO C2D kills a Pentuim D and also a P4 you just can't beat a Core 2 Duo even a little E4400 can reatch almost 4.0GHZ!

yeah it says:

 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz   2.99GHz

I don't know whether I should get a new board and cpu.  Also, in the vista performance test my cpu is 4.2 which is the lowest of all tests.

don't jump out and buy a new CPU yet, very few games are bottlenecked by the CPU and even fewer take advantage of dual core processors.

that is weird i just did a test on COH as well (i have Pentium D 2.8, a 8600GT) on 1280*1024 i got a result of "good" with 32fps average with all max setting except medium for shadow and physics.

i think something is funky with your card, since we got similar performance and COH don't have dual core support so to COH your CPU is actually better than mine too.

actually try uninstalling your forceware completely 1st, than reinstall it. i had similar problem before with a 6800, one day it suddenly performed much worse than before, but after i did a uninstall and reinstall of forceware performance went back to normal.

If you play at low settings then you are not using its full potential.
