So I built my computer about two years ago and am thinking it's time for a little tweaking. Also my current 500 GB harddrive is just about full. So I've been looking around at various HDs but have been having a hard time finding one the right speed, price and reliability. I'd appreciate it if anyone more knowledgeable (just about anyone) had any comments or suggestions for a brand or particular harddrive I should be looking at. I don't want to spend more than $100 (less is better obviously) but I also don't want it to just quit on me after a few weeks.

On a related note, my current set up has 4GB of Corsair RAM. I don't honestly know if more RAM would improve performance on anything (I mainly play games on this computer) but if so what should I get? Just get another 4GB or go all out and get like 12? RAM seems pretty cheap now adays but still don't know if it's worth it. Any thoughts welcome.

I use Crucial Ballistix(1600 unbuffered). Not too expensive and so far so good. Plus I like the look of them with the metal design on the side.

WD Caviar Blacks give good performance at a good price. Once you head above 7200rpm you'll find the prices rise considerably.

As you said, RAM is pretty cheap right now, so I say you should get as much as you can get away with. What is over-kill today will be considered average tomorrow. ;)
