If you're having trouble running old adventure games, look no further than Dosbox. It's a great little program that doesn't take much to learn how to use. As far as adventure games for xp, I'd recommend Indigo Proficy, or better yet, Sam and Max Seasons 1 & 2. If you sign up for Gametap, you'll get to play all the Sam and Max games for around $10 a month, plus they have tons of older adventure games on there you can play without an emulator. It's really worth the monthly fee....and they often give you a free month if you try to unsubscribe :)

ok,, (Far cry) for PC is ideal for horror , i mean there r parts in the game when you scream or jump off your chair with those creepy monsters.. also for sci-fi , adventure , all in one game

if you would like to try it ( click here ) to read my review for the game.

Sherlock Holmes 'The Awakened' is pretty creepy and a first-person adventure game - also FEAR a really creepy FPS

if you can find and get it working the 'Blade Runner' game is really intense and gets quite dark (atmospherically speaking)

Call of Cthulhu: Dark corners of the Earth is a great, great game. Check it out.

Try out Penumbra-games too.

I thought Bioshock was pretty creepy, especially when playing in the dark alone in my room.

Just try to look past the voice actor of your protagonist. Sometimes his heart races at 150 RPM, his sight get all fuzzy, because he's scared out of his mind and at the same time he sounds like he's taking a stroll in the park listening to birds sing. Too bad they did not fix that.
