I found a second hand GTX 770 Lightning 2GB. So I'm asking you guys. Is it worth? Or should I buy a 970? I'm planning to play the witcher 3. I've pre ordered it for the PS4 but I'm also thinking to play the PC version instead. With the upcoming new line of nvidia ( I think they will release their new cards around aug - sep 2015) Should I just wait?

Depends on the price, and what your upgrading from, so question is what are you upgrading from?

If the used 770 is like $180 or under its a no brainer if your coming from something older then the GTX 660 series or AMD 7850 , 770 makes the recommended requirements. The 770 will provide better performance and graphics then the PS4 will do depending on the cpu you have. But if you have the money, cpu power and are coming from the type gpu stated above 970 will allow near ultra 1080p 60 fps according to CDproject commenting on the 980.

Nvidia is suppose to release their new architecture like in 2016 so a 970 would still be a good upgrade.

You're going to be more satisfied with the GTX 970. Vram is starting to become somewhat important and you don't want to gimp yourself with a 2gb card.

I'd go with a 970, with the 760 2gb I noticed the ram doesn't cut it anymore in all games at 1080p, also its faster.

Go with the 970. Far more powerful than a 770.

770 = a oc'ed 680. A 970 is basically 80% more faster then a 680.

I would go for a 970 for sure specially because of the v-ram. But it will cost you double that.

If your question would be i have 1x 770 4gb should i upgrade towards a second 770 4gb or buy a 970, i would have said a second 770 for cheap for sure. But as it's your first card, i would get a 970. Or buy for 200 euro's second handed a 290 which are cheap as hell with warranty as they are a bit older and they push like 10% lesser performance then a 970 but with a full 4gb of v-ram.

your choice.

Yeah I'm looking to upgrade from my crossfire 7850 set up (slightly slow than a 770 in games that work well with crossfire)

The 2gb of ram is not enough for a lot of games coming out now.

I'm stuck between the 970, 980 or a 290x

Go for the 970. You'll be far more satisfied with it.

I would highly recommend one of the 970s for a multitude of reasons.. First reason: It has significantly more vram at 3.5 gigs.. Second reason: even it being a more powerful card it has less power draw and runs cooler than the 770.. Third reasons: Windows 10 is on the horizon for all of us, and so is Direct X 12. The 970 is a directx 12 ready card.. Fourth reason: The better 970s overclock like a beast due to its lower power draw and low temps (meaning quite a bit of a head room if your lucky).. A overclock boost clock to around 1450mhz makes it only 1 or 2 fps slower than a 980 stock.. Fifth reason: You can buy a second 970 gtx down the road for SLI.. If directx 12 delivers that means SLI vram can be stacked, meaning you will have 7gb's of vram.

As for which 970 I would recommend.. You can't go wrong with the Gigabyte Windforce, the Asus Strix, or MSI 4g models.... Just be mindful with dimensions.. The Windforce is a really long card, and you may have problems fitting it in your case.. The MSI and Asus strix cards are shorter but are wider and actually won't fit in certain cases (like the Corsair air 240, these two cards are too wide for you to be able to shut your case side)..

If you're willing to spend $550 for a 980 then you might as well just wait a month or two on R9 390/390X and then make your decision.

If you go for a 290 or 290x don't buy one with a stock cooler since they are horrible at cooling the GPU.

You have a CPU thats literally 4-5x faster than the consoles CPU and you have a ton of ram. Finish the job and get the 970 (your literally a GPU away from sealing the deal on this generation)

Don't get a 2GB GTX 770. A buddy of mine has one and he is already looking to buy a new card. VRAM is limiting him and he's only playing on a 1080P panel.
Get a GTX 970 and you'll be safe for a while.

@insane_metalist: yeah I will wait...remember last year waiting for the the 900 nvidia cards....but chose to crossfire instead to save money.

I got a nice performance boost from it, about 40% better in most games but the 2gb of ram is gimping my system with newer games.
