Mafia Greatest Game of ALL Time

This is my Favorite game of all time Mafia is like all games subject to great scrutiny.

The story-line, the game play, the AI. The enjoyment most of all.

Having taken all of these into account Mafia is the MUST have game above all others.

The competition pushing this game was fierce Games such as Halo,Morrowind,GTA 3 for its sheer breaking the rules and breaking of Linear game play

MGS,GTA San Andreas,Oblivion,Driver,Vice City,Medal of Honour,Call of Duty

All of these games are great games, but Mafia is the greatest of them all

Its the 1 game id say if you haven't played your missing a Master piece of Game-play

Declaring one game to be greatest is very improper. Mafia is definitely a great game, one of my favourites but it ain't the greatest.

There are a lot of other great games too which you have either not played yet or have forgot to mention. You don't seem to have played a RTS at all. Try them. There are many great RTS games too.

When I had played about three different driving missions, I just couldn't take it. They are horrible!Vfanek

The initial 5-6 driving missions were the only disconcerting part of Mafia. Have patience till they are over and then the show begins.

Well, the Godfather was a decent GTA-clone (the Wii version was suprisingly good, for an EA-made, movie tie-in GTA clone port with tacked on Wii controls - and it have every precedent going against it :P). 

Mafia was a flawed, but intriguing, linear story-based third person shooter - they're almost in different genres, and difficult to compare.

I wouldn't call Mafia one of the best games ever, but then again, I only got about 2/3rds of the way through. Maybe its one of the games where the ending really makes the game awesome (like Killer7), but even if it did have a great story - I just didn't find myself enjoying the game very much.

Mafia? A "great" game? Are you high on crack cocaine!? I remember playing that for PS2. It wa the buggiest, lamest, most horribly sloppily controlled game I have ever played. The story and such were good, but everything else about it was horrible. Maybe the PC version wasn't as bad... but the PS2 version was incredibly dismal.BewilderedRonin

Driving is simply not fun in the game, and the camera is pretty bad when on foot._Memento_

It's not meant to be, it takes you back to the old vehicles of the 1920s. Its authenticity won't make it win any points for fun but it's certainly a fantastic experience. I prefer an experience.

I think i even broke a CD (that's another story though), I might pick it up later than :P

Got to some... burn some guys cars mission. Then "drive there", I went "screw you" and exited the game.. I hope yer right :p

Yes the PS2 and Xbox version were terrible, but the PC version was fantastic.  Just go look at the reviews.  I have the Xbox version and it is terrible.  But the PC version is my favorite game of all time.

Oh man, just thinking about Mafia makes me sick. After a couple hours of playing I couldn't take it anymore. It was literally one of the worst times I have ever had playing a game. I know that sounds extreme, but I just hated it that badly. I couldn't uninstall it fast enough. :?RyanWare

Try out the new TMNT game.  It lasted about 3.5 minutes on my computer. 

Mafia is a great game but its not the greatest game off all time.

There are a lot of other games that are better .

Definately one of the tops one. But many will say BG: II or Planescape Torment. I never got into them myself, as I started them too late and my eyes can't take the dated UI, graphics and gameplay.. DND is not my style, but I can safely say that they are great games.. basing off reviews and opinions.

Well considering I was 12 when I played it...that fits PERFECT!  And sorry, OOT is the highest rated game of all time accross every platform.  It wins "best game of all time" over and over again.  Let me give you a hint...it's not becuase it is "kiddie crap"...

Mafia was a great game back in it's day, but not because of the gameplay, which is mediocre. The game has one of the best stories in a game ever (top 10 imo). I like Godfather, Goodfellas, A Bronx tale and so on, so that might be why I liked it. It is a classic, but not the greatest game of all time. Every person has his/her favourite game, so there's no point in fighting over which game is the best.

It's one of the few games that ever scored a perfect 10 for a reason...though I can imagine after 9 years the game certainly will show it's age.  But it did get a 8.9...8.9 for a game that is almost a decade old is quite a statement.

Mods need to lock this thread now.  It has been hijacked from being about one of the greatest story oriented mob games to talking about a cheesy children's fantasy game. 

Dnuggs, exactly my thoughts too. 8,9 is pretty darn impressive for such an old game. And it bothers me that I have not played a game that a lot of people consider to be the best of all times. I played Half Life for the same reasons and hated it, but at least I played a piece of gaming-history.. I seriously doubt HL would score 8,9 today.

And graphics do not bother me too much as long as the gameplay and story (most important to me) are great.

I think most people who have a problem with Mafia, did not get that it was more of a simulation than just a shooter/action game. I mean the cars did not drive or break that well cause cars of that era probably behaved that way, other things like reloading would make you loose the remainder of bullets in the previous magazine,  and the enforced speed limit and other traffic laws, I think just added to the emergence factor. sad thing that there would be no sequel.

Love that game, it is definitely on my top ten list. I do not think any other game was able to capture the atmosphere of the era like Mafia, I mean the music, the building design, wordrobe, the cars ....

Yup the music is just so great.  I actually used a little mod tool the extract the music files and burned them to a CD.  Now I can drive around in real life and listen to that music.  I tell you it is really cool!  Just hearing that music puts you right back in that world. 

Plus there are a lot of cool mods.  The real car name mod is great, there is one that makes the in game characters look as good as they do in the cut scene.  And there is a real sign mod.  Plus when you get the real sign mod you can go in and change the signs to anything you want.  So you can basically customize a lot of the world!

Mafia is not that good man , what are you talking about? GTA series was a lot better. I remember some driving missions and it was horrible. There are a lot better games than MAFIA. It cannot be greatest game of all time. Greatest game is single player GTA-San Andreas , Multi is WOW and CSS.mert15_2004
