Whenever I go to Launch "Lost Planet" Steam comes up with a window saying "Preparing to launch..." and then when that shuts nothing happens! No game, No Error Message, No Nothing!

Can you help?

My system specs are.

OS: Windows XP

CPU: Dual Core Processor x86 Family 15 Model 75 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~2199 Mhz (copied from Systems Info, I don't actually understand it, not a big PC gamer >_>)

RAM: 2 gigs

Hard Drive: 232 gigs

Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS, Direct X 9.0

Sound : None

Make sure you are attempting to launch the DX 9 version. Also check to make sure Steam and the game are updated. Don't forget to update your ForceWare (GPU drivers from nvidia) regularly too.

Hmm... That's odd. If nothing else works, try backing up your Steam programs and reinstalling the client.

It is most likely NOT steam...steam is a great service that serves its purpose well. How long has it been since you had a fresh XP install. Sometimes after 2 to 3 years of garbage buildup on the HD things just stop working or wont work at all. Steam is the last thing i would blame your scenario on.

It's a new computer, I installed XP about a week ago. I tried the Steam thing, it's still not working.

I'm gonna try reinstalling DirectX 9.

this maybe illegal , but i searched the internet for a nocdfiles (they are many) for Lost planet both DX9&DX10 versions , i hated the fact i must have steam & internet to lunch the application , u do have internet conenction to ur PC right & have steam installed , if not then u should search the internet , otherwise maybe a driver upadate for sound & VGA will help, since some games i think wont lunch without your hardware being updated.isif u have steam is it updated to latest version.does it pop up any messages or errors or anything .

I have an internet connection, Steam and my Graphics card is updated completley. I don't have a sound card but I highly doubt that would cause the game to not launch.

There are no error messages, if there was I would know what to do :l

The problem isn't with steam, I have tested this by downloading the CiV :BTS demo.

Is it maybe because I'm running a non-legit copy of XP? Because I plan on buying a legit copy in the coming weeks so if that's all then maybe I'll just need to wait :l

Okay, I downloaded the demo to see if it works and I get the Error message "The procedure entry point WMCreateSyncReader could not be located in the dynamic link library WMVCore.dll"
Is it possible that this is the same problem I'm having with the full game only the game isn't giving me an error message?
And how do I fix this?

Nevermind, it's my lack of Sound Card that's causing the problem.

It was because I didn't have a newer version of Windows Media Player. I downloaded WMP 9 and it works fine now. Thanks for trying to help anyway!

That has to be the most stupid reason ever for a game not working.

I concur. Although I don't think it was WMP itself the game needed but one of the .dll files that comes with WMP 9 + over.

well no , actually many games have a connection with WMP files & codecs & stuff, like that if you play Rome Total War, without installing some of the codecs for WMP9 then you will have alot of video porblems in the game, & in that time WMP10 wasn't out yet, but usually updating will fix everything.
