Spore wasn't THAT bad. It was just a bit shallow. The expansion pack however was fantastic. Then again, I didn't pay for the vanilla game (borrowed my gf's copy) so I guess I can understand why people would have been super-disappointed when they bought the game at launch.
$60 bucks for the game and two expansions a few years after it was released to mediocre critical reception is a terrible deal indeed. To put it in perspective, on sale the complete Spore pack is more than Fallout 3 GOTY is at full price, let alone the $24.99 it was on sale for not too long ago.
even if they enjoy it, it is still a waste, i wouldnt even call it a deal at this price.

How does that work? As long as someone enjoys a product they bought how is it a waste. You can not possibly know what qualifies as a waste to one person or the next. It might be a waste to you, but to state it as if it were a fact... well that is wrong. Anyways I am done here, I made my point.
The game was the biggest disappointment of my gaming life. It was so devoid of depth- the only thing good about it really, were the creation tools. I had actually been hyped for the game for years, but after I played it, I basically never thought about it again...

This means that you are getting more value from your purchase and thus, less waste. Trust me, I hate the game with a passion (Day 1 purchase for I and my GF) but if someone enjoys it then they have not wasted their money. Too bad you want to dictate other peoples opinions for your own vendetta.
I bought Spore full price at launch and I loved it. Wasn't as good as I expected, but hey, it was still really good. I haven't gotten the expansion yet, however.

Yea...my first game purchase that I ever questioned "what was I thinking"...Hell, I still have Sim Earth...to each their own however comma...
The only problem I had with Spore was that fact that there really wasn't any sort of aquatic stage outside of growing your single cell organism and then BOOM it is on land running around like that is normal. I was really hoping they would include that part of the game in a later expansion or something but of course that didn't happen. Glad I didn't pay money for it or else I would have been pretty disappointed with it.
Even the Tribe Stage felt shallow and weak you really didn't do anything outside of gathering or eating your neighbors and then the big fight to advance you to the Civilized Stage. I was hoping during the EA sale that it would have been like 75% off or something since it was fun seeing how outrageous you could build your creatures.
