If you already have the monitor, keyboard, mouse, then it's very doable. $800 would come out to be a nice build. Try to shop at websites that don't charge for tax like Tigerdirect.com or Amazon.

Although Amazon does charge tax now in certain states:

Arizona
California
Kansas
Kentucky
New Jersey
New York
North Dakota
Pennsylvania
Texas
Washington

Honestly, if you're on a budget, you'd probably be better off with an i5 and putting the savings towards a GPU. I can't imagine that an i7 offers a gamer much in the way of graphical horse power over an i5.

$800 and a i7 is doable (if you have monitor, OS, keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc.), but you'll be left with a really fast processor and a mediocre GPU, i.e. an unbalanced build. RAM is cheap, you can have as much as you want, but do know that more than 8GBs won't do a thing for your gaming performance. IMO, build something around a i5 4660K, Z87 Mobo, 8GB of RAM and a GTX760.

If you want a good GPU then no, the i7 makes absolutely no sense in your budget (an i7 with motherboard is going to eat half your budget). You'd be looking more along the lines of an i5 or fx8000 and for GPU you'd be looking at a GTX 760

It is a tight budget and you should drop the i7 and put the money towards a decent GPU.

You should look at i5 CPUs.

Yes, you can build a very nice PC for $800. Let me know if you want to build one, and I'll help you pick out some excellent parts...
