Hi

I just bought a load of stuff for my PC, including an Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 CPU.

My motherboard is a MSI P965 Neo. The website says the motherboard supports Core 2 Duo, but if I install it in my pc, it simple won't start up.

I updated my bios to the latest version, but the only thing this changed, was that I now can see my startup screen (the screen that shows up after 1 second when you boot). It won't continue starting.... It just freezes.

First of all, is this actually compatible? This CPU cost me very much money and I can't return it. Please tell me it's compatible....

Second of all, if it is... How do I fix this???

You should have read the CPU support list before buying it, because that mobo DOES NOT support that CPU at all, even with a BIOS update.

yes it does support it, its a LGA 775 socket with an top FSB of 1066 that support Core 2 Duo's, Pentium D and CeleronD so the E7600 should work.

Yeah well I did... Problem is the f*cker who installed the motherboard a long time ago, gave me the wrong box that said "MSI P965 NEO-F"... Which is a diferent type.

And why doesn't it support it? It's not that because it's not in the list, it's not supported... Right?

The motherboard supports maximum Core 2 duo, and FSB 1066Mhz, which are both required for the CPU. Or doesn't that matter at all? :(

Yeah That's what I thought!! But is it really true? And why doesn't it work then?

That mobo supports only 65nm chips, the e7600 is 45nm.
