Sins of a Solar Empire? Dunno if that fits the bill as I've never played it but it sounds like what you could aiming for.

Afraid that is not what I'd consider a building game. It's a real-time strategy game. It's quite different. As for building games with a galaxy setting, boy, I don't know to be honest. All the ones I know about take place right smack dab on earth. The closest thing I can think of is EVE Online, but that might not be what you're looking for.

Ahh right, well Eve Online an MMO as well so that could drastically alter that one.

Hm... X3 could maybe interest you. You start of with a single spaceship, but you can buy/find more and also buy production factories and what not to make money.

It's basically a space sim with some RTS properties...

There aren't building games AFAIK set in space. For building games not set in space: Simcity series, Civcity rome, Grand Ages of Rome, etc.

X3!!! your gonna tell her about that? that game take months to do, yeh might be up your ally but serious space sim. erm...let me see I'll name you some space buildings games. StarTopia it was made in 2001 though, you manage space station, 3 decks of the station, 1st is the engineering deck where most of the station's facilities are built. It is also where visitors and trade ships enter or exit the station. 2nd The pleasure deck is mainly for recreation and is the economic centre of the station. 3rd is the biodeck which is basically a an enviromental complex where you can grow plants and and add water and such...sort of like a garden. Look it up on Youtube or something. Galatic Civilizations 2, I haven't got the expansion but its a decent game and I hear the expansion is great, it will keep you busy for a while. ...can't think of any more, there aren't many space themed buliding games and the other ones I know are probably ones you have played.

I thought no one would ever talk about that game ever again, thanks for bringing it up. Pretty fun game especially for building a space colony simulation, but the combat really could have used some work.

Ever tried BLACK & WHITE? There isn't any sort of "Cosmos Construction" but I remember it being pretty entertaining. That is, if you are into that God Moding sort of thing. "We need more hOoOoOomes!" /winks

Eve Online. You build your account cash to buy and pimp out ships. It's prefect for you.

Sins Of A Solar Empire might be worth a try too though..

Correct me if I"m wrong, but I believe you can get X3 free on Gametap. You might be interested in Spore, but I don't really know, the Space Stage is pretty awesome, but the other stages are pretty meh for most people, but I enjoyed them.

Sword of the Stars - Space empire building with planet management and cusomisation of spaceships. The game also uses some ridiculous races...i mean if space dolphins are you style then PLAY THIS GAME. I've never really found anything that compares to civilization in the terms of empire building games...Civilization 4 is the best turn based empire building game around

Definitely Galactic Civilization 2 (the Ultimate Pack is out these days and has all the expansions...and the expansions are WELL worth the extra price). GC2 is a turn-based empire building game (it's actually a LOT like Civilization in space). Also, if you want more action-oriented gameplay than GC2, there's the real-time strategy/empire building games Sins of a Solar Empire (which has been mentioned previously in this thread) and Hegemonia: Legions of Iron.

You know ever since Sim City 4, i've been off those type of games for a hell of a while. I honestly don't feel that anything else has lived up to something like that game. Yeah call me nuts but I thoroughly enjoyed that game what with the intricacies of distributing water throughout the city and establishing trade with adjacent zones. But hey, i'd be happy to be proven wrong. I'd be willing to try a newer city building game if it plays like Sim City 4 or better. I do enjoy the complexity of it all.

"How about we try building a future together? I love silly girls!" That...is the best line ever!!! You could try Grand Ages: Rome. It seems pretty cool.

Edit: Doh, didn't read the whole thread.
Alternative answer: Spore?

You could also try a Total War or Civilization game. They don't necesarily involve that much fighting. (Unless the enemy declares war on YOU, of course)

LOL! have you seen the reviews for that game, you got one guy giving it a 1.0 anotehr a 3.0 and the other two giving it a 9.0 and a 10...then the user score give it 6.0...theres a bunch of completely mixed opinions.
