Razer sets out to prove PC gaming isn't dead.... with a gaming laptop.

http://www.razerzone.com/

Now i won't lie, it looks like a pretty cool laptop from a gaming perspective. Aside from a missing optical drive of course.

http://youtu.be/jSFMaCOeFas

Specs:
Intel Core i7-2640M (dual core) 2.8Ghz/3.5Ghz [base/turbo]
8GBs 1333Mhz DRR3
17.3" screen (1080p)
Nvidia GT 555M 2GB
Built-in webcam
320GB 7200rpm HDD
1 x 3.0 USB
2 x 2.0 USB
3.5 audio microphone jack
HDMI connector
Ethernet port
60Wh Battery
Wifi
Blutooth 3.0

Price: $2,800

Conclusions: This doesn't prove PC gaming isn't dead (despite it not being dead anyways), nor does it change anything. But it's a nice laptop if you can afford it and still bear the lack of a disk drive. I would have been more impressed with a $600-700 gaming desktop.

For a $2800 laptop, a GT555M is shameful.

laptops are always going to be expensive, especially ridiculously powerful ones.

everything has to be made small and that costs money, especially if you want to keep the gaming power.

building your own desktop is still the best advert for pc gaming. :)

It's a pretty pathetic announcement, yes. All they managed to do was make PC gaming look less appealing.

All they really did with this is reinforce the idea that pc gaming is expensive when it really isn't.

For 2800 $ you can buy a desktop equiped with a 30" 2560 x 1600 display and with a GXT 580 as GPU and a i7 black series CPU instead of that crap, to be honest.

They claim PC gaming isn't dead and then they bring out an expensive laptop which further endorses the stereotype that that PC gaming is very expensive :?

That would be a beast system. Personally I don't understand the point of portable PC gaming when it's gonna chew up your battery life which basically forced you to be plugged in, which most times is at your house. Which kills the point of it being portable in the first place. So it might aswell be a gaming desktop which you can probably squeeze out more performance with $800-900 rig.

Gaming laptops are such a waste and never worth it (unless you have unlimited income I suppose). I built my computer over 2.5 years ago for $900 and it still runs nearly every new game at max settings.

Pinkybinds are thrown out the window if you use the default controls. I usually bind at least 3-4 commands per game to my pinky.

They should've made an affordable gaming laptop instead. Like, the everyman's gaming laptop. For people who game on laptops.. whoever those strange people are.

The main thing Razor managed to achieve with all that proof of PC gaming isnt dead PR, is to spark up consoleites with the PC gaming is dying trend again.

That's a big waste of money. I mean an m11x can be had for under $1,000 and is far more mobile than their laptop. And laptop hardware goes down in price even faster than desktop hardware, a similar laptop will be had for a thousand less in like 3 years.

With an overpriced gaming laptop that won't bring in any console gamers over to pc gaming and hell only a very small niche of pc gamers will buy it.

As far as Razer trying to establish a stronger brand recognition, I'd say it's a bold attempt. Unfortunately, price is out of touch with reality, and the single most important component (GPU) is sorely lacking considering the outrageous pricing. Better luck next time, I guess.

Aren't there 2 types of laptops? One comes with the Atom Processor and it's cheaper. Still, for that price I could get 2 ASUS Gaming Laptops...

A laptop in no way can compete with the joy and comfort you get with a desktop for gaming.

Pc gaming is't dead yet, instead it rulz.

Damn near $3000. This is not helping pc gaming in the slightest, nor will it help razer, I actually see Razer losing a lot of money on this dumb move!

WTF????.....2800 for a laptop?...Holy cow!! i think in a desktop config this laptop's spec would cost a lot less, 7-750 at most? I think 2800 would build a dream PC, 2x 22" monitors, a Logitech z-5500 and everything else you need and STILL have plenty of money in the bank for games and a few future upgrades....when you need them

Absolutely lowest of low marketing stunt - especially the proclaiming 'the worlds first true gaming laptop'. Nice way to look like absolute douches chaps, really - coming from someone who games on a gaming laptop primarily.

It truly is haha. @ exotic you can buy two nice gaming laptops for that price. The 3rd portrait in your sig pretty much sums it up for me LOL. And then the last portrait for the guy behind me.
