How much AMPs des the 8800gt need on 12v rail?

i have 24a on a single 12v rail?

my psu is the antec true power 550 still pwns

Just the video card won't use more than 8 amps on full load. Of course, other components also use +12v power, not just your video card.

Stock 8800GT peaks at ~110w, 9-10 amps, overclocked versions will use up to 12 amps.
It depends on the rest of your system, but I would say a +12v rail with 25a at the minimum.

That probably sucks a lot of power. What is your CPU and what is it clocked at?

EDIT: What is your current video card? Maybe it uses more power than a 8800GT.

i've seen specs (AVAdirect) for the 650MHz eVGA card where the minimum recommended amps on the 12V rail is 22 (single card) and 24 (SLI). like other posters have mentioned, this probably all depends on what else you have hooked up to your PSU.

you'll be fine. The worst that will happen is your computer will shut down randomly then you need a new one.
