how good of a gaming laptop is this?

Dual-Core Intel® Core™2 Duo Processors T7300 (2.0GHz) w/4M L2 On-die cache - 800MHz FSB 15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) or WXGA (1280x800) Widescreen LCD w/PCI-e nVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT w/512MB 100GB 7,200RPM SATA/150 Hard Drive 2GB DDR2/667 Memory basically, i want to know what to expect as far as running games. my first buys will be HL2 and such, especially CS. FarCry, and Oblivion. how well can it run those games?

It should do ok on those games. I haven't followed laptops as closely since I bought mine last year, but I'm pretty sure that's a good graphics chip. Here is a great article that describes laptop graphics chips and what they can do. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568

I have a gaming laptop with specs lower than those and I've been able to play games such as Half Life 2 and Far Cry without any problems what so ever. Granted, the settings weren't cranked up to the max--I ran them mostly on medium/high settings, but they still looked great and the frame rate was always consistent.

My laptop is 3 years old now however, so really, I wouldn't worry about playing the games you mentioned on a laptop with those kind of sepcs.
