Liking this! You just know that the 8 core is going to be mega bucks
I'm not paying all that extra cash for 5mb cache and 2 cores. Hopefully I'll get the 5930K if only just for the 2 x 16 :D
Also. 140watts. Not bad going Intel!
Supports ddr4 eh? I must of forgot about that or I'm just behind.
It's fine just go back to sleep....zzzzzz

I hope DDR4 ram isn't the only ram supported, or else all the people who bought the new z97 boards will be pretty angry.

It's for x99

Yeah, if you are first going to X99, get the 5930K at least... And please do push it to 4.4 or higher :P

Whoops, woah man, I completely brainfarted and forgot the 5930/5960X were not the same chipset. Derp.
A 5820K seems like a good upgrade from my 4670K... But I have a feeling that pricing will look something like this:
Based on previous releases.
Not sure if I am willing to cough up more than £300 for a CPU since all I use my PC for is gaming.
PS... Those are gestimates but I doubt they would stray far from previous generations.

I'm in the same dilemma. I would love a six to eight core CPU but I also realize that my quad core i7 is over 5 times faster than the consoles CPU (thus for gaming only it would be a waste for a single card solution).
I'd be better off putting that money into a high-end 20nm card
@horgen: 4.5GHz Minimum man.
4.4 for losers! :DWhere do find these gifs? :P

If you first go this way, get the 5930K... 40 PCIe lanes for mutli GPU set-ups :D

@klunt_bumskrint: You're tempting me to derail the thread now.. But well you know it wouldn't look good

That moment when Intel keep the same TDP even at 8 core CPU
The actual power use will probably be a lot higher for the 5960 than the 5820 and 5930 even though they have the TDP.
I have no interest in more than 4-cores for my usage. I'm sure people who use heavy "business" programs will find it useful, most scientific programs that I use are single-threaded, yay.
Game developers are getting better are at writing multi-core optimized code...but they still have a long way to go.

Yea most of the music production programs I use would benefit more from a high clocked quad core, than a lower clocked hex, or octa-core.
We are prolly gonna run with the 4790k for our new builds. (catch the sales) Will worry with DDR4, and 8 core Icore7s once they mature a couple of generations, and when games/programs would be able to utilize them more efficiently. (and once DDR4 comes down in price a bit)
Unless of course the performance of this new hardware is a significant increase over the previous, and the price is attractive.
wait a sec, this ain't even broadwell, so why is it a 5xxx series? or is this officially "fifth gen"?
damn nice, 8 core 8 threads... it'll be hard to resist not buying one of these but I probably won't unless they blow away my 4470k in gaming.
I can see the 8 core being nice for compression but I already converted hundreds of my blurays to smaller versions for my other devices so any random compressions I do here on out i can wait a few more minutes on my slower cpu.
Can't wait to see some real benchmarks on these against current gen cpus.
TDP is 140 watts on these, so these are pretty power hungry at full blast i guess. I think my 4770k is 84watts... i wonder how much heat will come off these, probably quite a lot with those 8 cores blazing
@klunt_bumskrint: Didn't see it on Newegg so I wasn't sure. Were you able to get a price on it and how easy is it to actually find RAM for this thing?
Think I'll be getting the 5930k
Hopefully it will OC better than your current processor :P
Hope fully better than MOST Haswell CPU's... My 4670k BSOD at 4.2ghz even if I set the voltage to 1.29v... Strange since I am running 4.0ghz at 1.1v.
F***ing Haswell... Took the fun out of having a K CPU.

I think it has to do with the voltage controller... The CPU can't handle having that.
The i7 5820k is rumored to be priced at around $320 - $350. It is the successor of the 4820k, which already priced at $330 MAX MSRP. Looks like it will be the best bang for the buck, beating out the Quad Core i7 4790k with ease (which also similarly priced oddly).
i7 5820K = Recommended for the Single GPU or Dual GPU users.
The i7 5930k will most likely be priced at around $550 - $600 like the i7 4930k. I wouldn't recommend this CPU unless you have money to blow and/or use 3 or more active GPUs.
i7 5970X is for rich people.
Think I'll be getting the 5930k

Yep >________<
If the 5820k comes out at around $350, it will be like the i7 920 for its time. It will be the first 6-core processor targeted at the mainstream, just as the i7 920 was the first 4-core processor targeted at the mainstream back in 2008. With many games likely to make at least some use of 6 cores over the next few years, the 5820k will be an incredibly smart buy... if it comes out at around $350. Of course, the 5820k will also support DDR4 RAM, but I'm going to be a little cautious in getting that (X99 motherboards, which are what the 5820k will run on, are supposedly also going to maintain legacy support for DDR3, letting you can have your cake and eat it, too.)
The 4820k was/is $320, but it only has four cores. With the 5820k, more cores will mean a higher everything – performance and utility, yes, but also, unfortunately, price (and power usage).
It's still going to be great, I hope. I was holding out for a 4790k (Devil's Canyon), but the 5820k looks like it's just going to be too sweet to pass up.
