Twice as powerful and uses less wattage? I'm sold. I'm getting one and building a desktop ASAP. It also have better VR and multi display performance and is twice as powerful as a Titan X in VR.

EDIT: GTX 1070 is faster than any current card and cost $379.

I am getting one too, but want to see actual benchmarks. That female plant in the audience was super annoying. I want honest reactions, not some bitch that is being paid. I love how the price went up $50 over the 980 launch price and that bitch instantly says "What!? I can actually afford that!". That was fuckin pathetic on Nvidia's part to have her in the crowd.

Pricing certainly makes a lot of sense. The Polaris is right around the corner, Nv can't go crazy this time. 1080 gtx for enthusiast and 1070 for bang for buck against Amds offering. I suspect Ti edition will come later this year to beat Vega to the punch.

I hope they aren't exaggerating cause... someone please bust out a calculator on relative performance by the percentages, because this leap meant that theres finally hardware thats capable to handle 4k while chilling with netflix on the side.

Its actually the opposite.

This is the most expensive full x04 GPU made ever... GTX980 was cheaper. GTX770 was cheaper. GTX680 was cheaper. GTX560Ti... well this was the last midrange priced x04, which was like $250...

But you are right about GTX1070.

Based on what we know about the specs (6,5TFLOPs and faster than TitanX performance), I think it will have a fight at $350 spot with full Polaris10 chip.

Gtx770 was almost rebadge level of hardware. Gtx 780 was $649. Gtx 670 was more.

I was more afraid of the rumors that they are going to charge at least $500 towards ti/titan like money. Especially when amd was ceding the performance crown to nv before the fight even started.

Gtx1070 maybe my card. Crossing my fingers that polaris can answer.

2 1070s would be great for 4k gaming

faster than a single 1080 and will cost you about ~700$

that "founders edition" thing is such bs though

@BassMan: @ShepardCommandr: Bassman speaks the truth, I have SLI too. SLI support has been getting worse and worse. You're better off with a single 1080. I still might splurge and get two 1080's for the hell of it. #YOLO

Oh, lame. I wonder what the binning process is. Does that mean people who don't get it are going to strictly get cards with lower OC potential?

Most likely. I would hate to pay a premium and not get a better product in the Founders Edition. Dunno what the binning process will be. Obviously, ASIC scores will be a factor, but that does not guarantee better OC.

Edit: Did some digging... The new Aventador coolers will only be featured on the FE cards and third party coolers will be used on the $599 cards.

I agree with GTX770. But GTX780 is not a full x04 GPU. Its a cut down x00/x10 GPU. There is a huuuuuuuge difference comparing a big die x00/x10 chip with the smaller x04 chip.

Imagine that the GTX780 is a 561mm2 die. Nowhere near GTX1080's 317mm2. So we can't compare them since GTX780 is more expensive but is also more expensive to make. We actually expected the price...

And GTX670 is not a full x04 GPU. But if you want to compare it with GTX1070, this is nowhere near either.

GTX670 had 90% of GTX680 performance. Thats why even entry factory o/c models was beating GTX680.

Now GTX1070 is suppose to have 6,5TFLOPs and more than TitanX performance. I will be generous and say that this will have 75%-80% of GTX1080 9TFLOPs.

GTX670 had MSRP of $399 for 90% performance of full chip. GTX1070 has MSRP of $379 for 75%-80% performance of full chip.

In my book, GTX1070 seems a little more expensive for what it gives...

....

Also I am a little skeptical about GTX1070. It seems more for a full GP106, rather than a cut down GP104, but we will see.

ps: Polaris will not answer GP104, GTX1080/1070.

This is what AMD's Roy Taylor said 2 weeks ago: AMD’s Polaris will be a mainstream GPU, not high-end:

"The reason Polaris is a big deal, is because I believe we will be able to grow that TAM [total addressable market] significantly," said Taylor. "I don't think Nvidia is going to do anything to increase the TAM, because according to everything we've seen around Pascal, it's a high-end part. I don't know what the price is gonna be, but let's say it's as low as £500/$600 and as high as £800/$1000. That price range is not going to expand the TAM for VR. We're going on the record right now to say Polaris will expand the TAM. Full stop."

They will however counter GTX1060/GTX1060Ti.

I enjoy my two 970s.

Although it irks me when certain games don't support SLI.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate took 3-4 months for SLI support but I needed it because even a single 980ti had drops below 30fps in that game when playing at max settings 1440p res with 2xmsaa. Now with SLI I never come close to dropping below 30fps with 2 970s.

Can't wait. I usually wait a year or two after new cards come out, but I can actually afford this one. Might have to buy it ASAP (not going to preorder, though).

Surprised the power requirements are so modest, I've slowly been watching those creep up over the years. My little 550W PSU still holds its own, though; might be time for an upgrade though, poor guy is like 10 years old.

I am glad I waited and didn't drop any money on the 9xx gen cards. That 1070 looks amazing and if the benchmarks are really that good and no first run hardware issues I'm almost certainly buying one this summer. I'm still using a large 1080p monitor and have no interest in VR so I imagine that a 1070 will max out any game I want at 1920x1200 for quite some time.

980sli?

that means people with titans and 980ti's in sli are still laughing at us...

these new cards were supposed to blow everything out of the water.

I thought it'd be a couple years until they had a true 4k capable card but this probably will be able to run most modern games at 4k 60fps now without suffering the glitches of SLI.

So glad I waited was almost getting frustrated into buying an R9 390. GTX 1070 is definitely my next card and will make my PC complete for the next 3 years. Steam sale in summer + GTX 1070 = awesomeness. :)

@Yams1980: youll be able to play 4k 30......but not 4k 60.

a bit sad....even 980ti's in sli cant do 4k60...so you can forget it with the 1080 and 1070.

but they have the p100 series left to announce...those might do it.

There was a 9.5 month gap between the 980 and 980 Ti releases. You may be in for a very long wait.

Fug. Well maybe not. 1080 is powerful enough anyways. Maybe 1080 SLI. That should last for 3k resolution for a while.

I don't want to wait for the 1080 Ti either. I think I am going to sell my 980 Ti and get a 1080 as long as the benchmarks are favorable. Probably sell the 1080 again when the 1080 Ti comes out. hehe :)

I'll probably do that same. That's most likely a better idea than getting 1080 SLI right off the bat.

Very nice. 2.1GHz on air is awesome, but notice the framerate. It's locked at 60Hz, so the card is not running full throttle. You may not be able to reach that speed. Knowing what game was running would help determine the true overclockability of the card. Either way, it's looking good so far. I'm looking forward to seeing some game benchmarks for both Pascal and Polaris...

Q1 2017 spans into March of next year. That is a potential 10 month wait for the 1080 Ti after the 1080 release. You can do a lot of gaming on a 1080 for 10 months. :)

Its not about PR from Nvidia, there are people that always want the latest and greatest, no matter what...

People with to much money?

@horgen: 980 Ti is still a beast for sure. If you are still happy with the performance, there is no point in upgrading. 980 Ti never really met my performance target, but it was the best single air cooled GPU available at the time.

It's official. I'm preordering a GTX 1080 Founders Edition (if there's some nice differences between the regular) and building a new desktop. I just paid off every single one of my credit cards completely. I am ready. My girlfriend is gonna hate me. R.I.P. me.

@saintsatan: Wait!

Along with reference cards, we will have non-reference aswell.

I am 100% sure that you could find better non-reference GTX1080...

Reviews and full specs are coming at May 17th.

Doesn't matter much since I'm sort of planning to get a 1080ti later down the line.

No point in talking sense to the madman. He likes paying more for less. (That's why he has an Alienware).

Had my 980 Ti since launch (which is less than a year). Back when that launched, it took the used 980 market a couple weeks to catch up.

This time around, seems like everyone's plugged into NVIDIA, anticipating their every move. Almost crazily. People taking over a 33% loss on their card for what will likely be a card that's around 15% stronger.

If that 1070 is actually stronger than the 980 Ti, then getting $400 for it is actually not too bad of a deal I guess..
