"Fallout: New Vegas uses Steamworks for achievements and other features (such as friends lists, cloud storage of user preferences and so on). Use of Steam will be mandatory at retail" -senior producer Jason Bergman.

What do you think? Did you like GFWL achievements or did you even care about them?

meh I dont really care about achievements, you usually get them done without knowing, if it isnt the case then its doing nothing more than to dominate the player or give an illusion to game length. But using steamworks is great for those that still buy retail copies.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of GFWL is it :P. To be honest I am not that bothered about achievements, but I am happy to hear that it won't be using GFWL and it hits the right spot with me that it is using steam. I bought fallout 3 from steam and I will no doubt buy New Vegas from steam too. In fact one of the things that put me off ever buying the DLC for Fallout 3 was the ridiculous GFWL points system (I am an adult not a kid that has to beg mummy for money). So hopefully with it using Steam that means any DLC will be much more accessible, so it is all good in my books so far :D

Sounds fine to me. Never got the point of them using GFWL on a single player game anyways. At least with steamworks, it'll likely mean that it cna be downloaded via steam with or without the CD.

Good. GFWL is annoying. I hate having to wait on it everytime I boot up a game.

it wont be, Steam has never had any sort of compatability issues with mods.

It won't be affected at all. Some old games that were re-released had issues because some mods wouldn't work with the files at their current date, so you'd have to redate them.

Yeah because it's not like one of the most modded engines of all time has mandatory Steam on all its games or anything....

Well my Fallout 3 Copy doesn't state you need Steam to play it at all and Fallout New Vegas is using the same engine as that so...yeah. @Ikavnieks: Ah, I stand corrected. Delightful. =3

Maybe you have a ton of disposable income, but I don't, and reselling games through Amazon Marketplace helps me fund new purchases. Unfortunately, with Steamworks, it has been more difficult as of late to do so...

Really? If this game used GFWL, then I could still resell my game and tell my buyers that only the achievements will be missing.

Plus, GFWL isn't that bad for single-player games. You only get achievements out of them and nothing else.

I was referring to the Source engine and its massive library of community content.

Doesn't it run on the Oblivion engine? Valve themselves released a file for the Steam version of that game just so people could use the most popular plugin... I forget what it's called but something that most of the mods required.

Every fallout 3 mod works with steam. Steam works the same way as a retail copy, you just play through it.

Yep there was some problem where the version Beth put on steam didn't work with Omod I think, so Valve personally created a patch to fix it.

This is good news. I'd rather them have Steamworks as copy protection for all games. This method you install the game, and then have Steam drop in the executable. It makes piracy a lot harder without having silly things like Ubisofts DRM mess. Also updates will be delivered automatically for the game via Steam.
And don't forget the Steam sales, this game will be 50% off in around 6 months from release at least.

Meh was gonna get this to boost my gamers score, got the last game for 360, but later got the GOTY edition for PC for mods and some free gamer score:D. This time i was gonna skip the 360 version and just get the PC version since its moddable and overall a better experience. But no achievements is a real bummer :(.

what sentry are you from steam is better than having a disk, cause DRM sucks you can't install it more than three times. Steam lets you install it as long as you have your log-in you can re install as many times as you want. What you don't have Internet stop living in the stone age, Ohhh you can't afford it, get a job!!!!!!! If you're a kid and you can't get a job, I apologize :( your parents are a bunch of cheep A@#$!!!!!!

Wow where to start. First buying the disc or DLing from Steam it still is tied to Steam which is a form of DRM though I'll stipulate not that bad a DRM. You don't have to have a raging internet connection if you buy the disc version so I don't know what this has to do with the stone age or living in this "sentry". I'm thinking some people should study more and learn how to spell words like century first and play less games. Just sayin'.
