Really? I didn't think it was that popular seeing as the online population is pretty low and nobody ever mentions it lol.

I remember buying the original on release and the game was way too confusing for me at the time hehe. Still get some of the music stuck in my head at random times. Inever got good at the game but played skirmishes a lot.

They also made a crappy Alexander game on the same engine as a tie-in for the 2005 movie:lol:

IIRC the series sold well above 4 million copies, but I'm not sure if that includes American Conquest or whatever that game was called. Never played it.

As much as I love Stalker, I'd rather have a Cossacks sequel from GSC.

I was never a fan of the second cossacks game though.

I played it but it pretty much was build the biggest army you can and rush, even more so than most RTS games.

See, That's what I like about it. The battles are immense because everyone has had a little time ot prepare. Especially with peace time on. Thats when sh*t get's serious...

Agreed, the game gets way too little talk. When GSC almost closed down everyone was thinking: 'no more stalker' but my first though was 'no more cossacks'.

I hope they make a new one after they are done developing STALKER 2.

I remember seeing it but I was already too busy with AOE2. I remember thinking it looked like a cross between that game and Sudden Strike which I was also playing.

I have AOE2 (Conquerors expansion) and Cossacks BTW on my PC, but find BTW much more satisfying... I can build huge armies, whereas in AOE there's a limit of 200. The AI seems much better too - troops defend themselves when atacked, peasants wander off if they aren't given tasks etc. It's interesting to find shortcuts and other bits-and-pieces too, like grouping several City Halls to send their peasants to one place, or having a mixed group of forces respond to one click etc.

This game was a big deal back in 2000, I think. The first RTS that allowed to manage a thousand of unints on screen, group them in divisions and use formations. Just a few month before Total War Shogun was released.
