not sure if this is the right thread to be posting in but ... yea, i got dawn of war 2 about a week ago, and it wont work for the life of me i got it on disc from best buy, i got it to install from steam, it finishes the installation process. then it goes to peforming first time startup crap, does all that that it gives me the multiplayer code so i can play online and i click launch game and nothing happens, i am signed on admin account i have steam and GMWL on in the background and i just cant get the damn game to work, and its starting to get frustrating cause i spent 50 dollars on the game, id rather buy play it and learn i hate it then purchase and never even have a chance to play the damn thing, so if anyone has tips or can offer me some support it would be greatly appreciated thx.

whats your GPU? I can't find it here

the bolded thing is also a problem, since these old AMD processors don't supprot some kind of multithreading (or something in that way), which DoW2 needs in order to run

so yeah, you will needs a new CPU and probably GPU

you realy should have tried the demo before buying the game

looking at your specc I would go with new comp, your motherboard is probably outdated too and you would have to change so many things you might aswell buy a new pc

but better ask the people one forum down, they know more about this stuff than i do^^

Your motherboard is very close to the one I had about 3 years ago - it supports AGP. (I had the A7V8X-X - VIA chipset)

TigerDirect.com (I can't put the link) has 3 decent AGP cards that will work with the game, if you have the money. I'd recommend either the X1950 or the 7800 GS, but the 6800 Ultra would also be good.

These cards support Shader Model 3.0 (which is pretty-much standard in any current game), and should meet just about any minimum spec (maybe recommended) for a lot of games out there.

A new video card, and some more RAM would get you by for a little while longer - depending on what game you're wanting to run.

would it be cheaper to do that? or purchase a whole comp altogether which would kind-of seem like the better choice in the long run cause more games are gonna be at the same standards are dawn of war 2

I would highly reccomend browsing these 2 sites, picking out the parts and building it yourself. Going through a company like..HP or Gateway will just get you screwed, as far as money goes.

www.newegg.com
www.tigerdirect.com

Not hard really. I built my first computer in...2006 with no training or schooling.(of course dont discount the posts above mine, simply upping your cpu/gpu/ram would help)

I wish you good luck my friend!

It's not worth upgrading it, you need a way better processor and nothing that works on that motherboard would be worth it for both the price and performance and that GPU that you saw is terrible for DoW 2 and pretty much all recent games, at that price you can get something twice as powerful maybe 3 times on PCI Express.

The Only option could be that your computer isn't compatible with the Game or you DVD Drive isn't fast enough.

Hey i recently brought Dawn of War 2, but i can't even get close to installing it on my laptop. It's a Macbook pro 15inch. I've looked all over to find an 'understandable' answer as to how to get it to install. However, i have read so many comments about how people have got it to play fine using Crossover or Parallel or bootcamp. None of which have got me any closer to my initial goal of installing it. I have a steam account and that didnt change anything. Can anyone help? Please! It's killing me not being able to play this game!!
