It depends on the screen size, I personally have a 22" monitor with a rez of 1680x1050 and it has very good picture clearity, and isn't a rediculous load on my gpu.

1440x900 on a 19" monitor IMO, is the best compromise of both worlds. On one hand, your graphics card need not be too expensive or powerful to handle that res. A HD3850 is certainly more than good enough.

A 19" widescreen with 14x9 res isn't going to cost much as well.

If you ask me, 19" and 22" monitors are the sweet spot. Anything smaller, and its just not as good quality (wide screen monitors are nice IMO), and anything bigger and you're going to need a mid/high-end GPU atleast.

agree. if you have like a mid range video card.. like the 9600gt, or the 3850 ideally you would like to have that at 1680x1050, but if you have more of the powerful cards like the 8800GTS/GTX or 9800GX2, 3780X2 (list goes on and on) you can actually consider it at 2560x1900 but that might be abit high so typically ppl put it at the 1900x1200 to acheive both good fps and image quality

800x600 will make all your games run at max. Looks uber on widescreen also.

Dell has a Auto-cad 22" CRT able for that resolution...

Well it´s a triniton, I own one, amasing colors and dark and the 120hz is nice but still it´s a CRT.

I have 2 monitor one is a 19" the other is a hdtv/monitor and it is a 32". The 19" one I gave to my Mom and it looks great. It could go up to 1440x900 but she has a internal card and I don't think it can hadle that size also she doesn't play that many games and the ones she do play are things like luxor and that sort of stuff.

Now for my 32" one that one is mine and I use it to play games like sc C&C 3 rts games mainly and so at the moment I have a 8600gt xxx 256mb card but soon will change that to a 9600gt superclocked or a 8800gt both of wich has 512mb.

1920x1080 this is my tvs max or it could be the gpus max I'm not sure wich but anyways by far I don't play any games at that setting. I mainly play at 1024x768 in most of my games and at that rez they all look very nice.

1280x720 this is the rez I play sc at and it does ok with the setting on high only 2 are at this level the rest are off or low.

I'm hopping down the road when I get another 1 gig of ram + the 8800gt or the 9600gt that once all are to gether then maybe sc would run smoother and the settings can be moved from some on low or off to medium at least.

If this don't work then I'll just wait until I build my self pc.

With what hardware?

If it were mine \/ i'd say 14x9 Crysis or 16x10 for normal games.

I have a 22" monitor and I use 1680x1050 (max resolution) pretty much because anything lower won't work in-game. I get weird stuff happening and major stuttering. I thought it was the monitor, but if I reboot into vista, I can use any resolution I want and the games run just dandy....go figure.

1920 x 1080 or higher.. as high as you can afford. You'r resolution is entirely dependant on what you monitor supports, its native resolution in other words. I use a 40" LCD, have to keep the brightness and stuff down .. cuz at 30" or more.. you don't want "Deer in the Headlights brights". Might get eye problems. Do yourself a favor, at night turn off your lamps in the room your in to see how bright your monitor really is .. pay attention to how much light you see radiating out of that monitor and realize just how much is in your eye's for all those hours ... you'll be surprised. Anyways, the better the resolution the less dependant you are using the system hogging, resource devouring.. and often poorly coded in games(bugged) Anti-Aliasing. Even Anisotropic filtering can be toned down. (another bugged system hog) I guarantee that if you turn those down .. or OFF completely your games will crash less or just be that much smoother.
