OK, well my computer oficially sucks at playing any of the newer games. What are some of the best games that can run on an old computer with a graphics card that isnt very good? Or maybe a new game that works on old computers.

What kind of computer do you have? If it's bought during the last few years with an integrated chip, your bets are pretty much all the games before 2004.

Well I already own and killed Starcraft Broodwar and Im looking for something new. Lets say... a game that can run on windows 2000. Any genre too, well, not racers or sports games.

If you haven't played them already (:o :P), I'd get Half-Life 1 and it's expansions, they're all really good games (ok, well maybe Blue Shift isn't the best, but you'll still have fun in it :P), and they'll take a while to finish as well.

That's not a bad gaming option to be honest. Of course, if you don't like to play games on minimum (I do it all the time cuz my computer ain't too good), that could be a problem. I think all the games that was released during the Xbox and PS2's lifespan is a good option.

All good ones. I left out games like Starcraft and Diablo 1, for instance, because I just don't like them very much.

The best in the list in my opinion is Riven. Despite that it's ten years old, it's the best adventure game, the best older game, the best game of all time, period. I would suggest playing Myst first, though, if you can get it to run properly (if you can't, read up on its story at Wikipedia before you play Riven to give yourself background info).

Please don't forget to try BATTLE REALMS. It's one of the best RTS out there. NoX is a very great Diablo clone RPG. The Thing and Freedom Fighters are great TPSs too. Please try these unpopular gems.

If you enjoy FPS games then have a look for System Shock 2 and Deus Ex. Both have ancient system requirements and will run well with your computer. The graphics are not fantastic but the atmosphere in both games is electric. If you want to find out what BioShock feels like System Shock is the original (and some say better) game that spawned its spiritual successor. If you like a great story, tension and rpg elements you will love this game. One small problem you might have problems finding this game these days as it is always in the top one hundred classic game charts- and therefore sought after.

Deus Ex is the classic rpg style cyber-punk sci-fi game, where the story is so adaptive you can almost do anything you want. Both games will run well on your 'old school' computer. Hope that helps.

You'd probably have to go pretty far back in order to find games that would run on this machine.

Red faction 2 should also run just fine. The hitman games (all of em should work okay) half life 2 will run, UT99 will work beautifully and is a blast, james bond nightfire, tribes vengeance, GTA 3, Halo, Honestly thts not a bad setup. You should be alright running most of the older games. Any doubt on them a lot of older games had demos. COD1 and 2 should work. I kinda just listed the games i played haha

You need to switch to XP SP3... trust me on that one.

Anyway, as for your list, these games will work just fine on your system, you'll have a lifetime playing them, as they are pretty good:

  • Fable: The Lost Chapters (RPG)
  • Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 (RPG)
  • Torchlight + the mods (RPG)
  • Baldur's Gate 2 (RPG)
  • Planescape Torment (RPG)
  • Gothic 1 & 2 (RPG)
  • Elder Scrolls: Morrowind (RPG)
  • Half Life + The expansions Opposing Force & Blue Shift (FPS)
  • Half Life 2 (FPS)
  • Counter Strike 1.6 & Source (FPS)
  • Unreal Tournament 2k4 (FPS)
  • Deus Ex (Stealth/RPG with FPS elements)
  • Diablo 2 (RPG)
  • Max Payne 1 & 2 (Third Person Shooter)
  • Serious Sam First & Second encounter (FPS)
  • Rainbow Six: Raven Shield (FPS)
  • Call of Duty 1 + Expansion (FPS)
  • Call of Duty 2 (FPS)
  • GTA 3, Vice City & San Andreas (Sandbox/Action)
  • Age of Empires 3 (RTS)
  • Age of Mythology (RTS)
  • Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War(RTS)
  • Dungeon Siege 1 & 2 (RPG)
  • Civilization 4 (RTS)
  • Battlefield 1942 (FPS)
  • Battlefield 2 (FPS)
  • Prince of Persia trilogy: Sands of Time, Warrior Within & The two thrones (Action/Adventure Third Person)
  • Splinter Cell trilogy (Stealth/Action)
  • Need for Speed ( every game, up until Most Wanted, pick one)
  • Neverwinter Nights (RPG)
  • Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines (RPG)
  • Rome: Total War (RTS)

All fantastic games, but instead of asking, why not just check any game from 1990-2005 that are critically aclaimed, or that might appeal to you. I'm probably missing a lot of games from that list.
