OK so I was recently playing ODST and I had this feeling while playing that I can't really explain, but I want to experience it again.

I am looking for a game that has some of these elements that I believe gave me that feeling:

-You are alone... I think that really set the mood in ODST...

-Music... THIS song playing, while walking at night, in the rain, alone... It just gets to me... I can't explain it. So music that helps in setting the tone of the game is good.

-In the aftermath of something... If you have played ODST, you know that you are launched and knocked out landing and a majority of the game is spent trying to find out what has happened to your team by finding clues of events that already happened and re-living them... I don't need the whole re-living events thing... But being in the aftermath of something and trying to find out what happened is something I enjoy very much.

-----------------------

Can you guys think of anything that fits those criteria, or maybe even just one or two of them? I really want to play another game like this, but I can't find anything.

EDIT: Also, it can be for any system (PC, PS3, 360)... I just put it here since I figured there would be more PC games like this... So if you think of something on like PS3 or 360, mention it too would you!

THANKS!

Cryostasis maybe? Though its more of an adventure-fps rather an FPS Great atmosphere, sound effects, graphics and story abit lackluster in the combat department and not so good optimization ( though anyone with a dual core and an 8800gt class vga should play it on medium-high settings ) Also penumbra but that its a pure adventure game set in first person with no combat. if you can live with that you are in for probably the scariest games ever created You get the feeling of been alone in the middle of nowwhere and that you are constantly are been watched. It also makes you feel helpless by giving you no weapon or armor and have to use the enviroment to survive

LOL I think I own Penumbra... I think I bought it in that humble indie bundle thing for charity where you picked your price and I just never played it... Let me look around... Thanks for suggestion!

Dead Space is what immediately springs to mind. System Shock 2 is another one, if a) you can track it down, and b) you don't mind its age.

There's also Cryostasis... Overall I wasn't really impressed by it, but there are a lot of people here who enjoyed it and would recommend it, so it may be worth a shot. It's REALLY badly optimized though, so it will probably run like crap.

There's other stalkers all over the place, though I have to agree you feel very lonely the atmosphere and feeling is simply amazing. Just remember to play it with the stalker complete mod.

Because there are people all over the place for you to interact with.

Compared with something like Dead Space, where it's literally just you vs. swarms of alien monsters.

demon souls for the ps3. i hate jrpgs but then i picked this up for its challenge and the reviews it got and i must say that is one damn fine game. not only are the enviroments scary but you truly do feel alone and small when you fight the demons that inhabit the world. first time through you dont know whether its safe or not and its always a scary thought and when you do find an npc out in the world its quite a sigh of relief. be advised though that this game is not for the easily frustrated and impatient this game is difficult and while this is a good thing it can be just as bad. its difficulty is why i enjoy it so much since games these days are made to be easy and to appeal to the common denominator so demon souls is truly a hardcore experience.

Alan Wake would also be a good game that fits what you have said. Other than that I can only reccomend what has been said above with games like Stalker and Dead Space.

If you wander through the wasteland in Fallout 3, not using fast travel, and do not use followers it can be pretty much like that.

I have to agree with the STALKER suggestions. Although there are other NPCs all around and about the place at times, you never feel connected or safe. Intensely lonely and nerve-wracking atmosphere.

Most of the games mentioned here are good but no one mentioned one very amazing game just yet -

HALF-LIFE 1!!!

The game realllly makes you feel alone and the soundtrack and just the ambient soundscapes are just incredible.

Not really, sometimes she contacts but not always, anyway it gotta be the feeling it gave me when you walk in an empty room, it feels so lonely, especially when you see that the splicers form a community but you are all alone.

From what your talking about, your not talking about being scared, but the epic feeling of being alone (that music kinda set my expectations). While their isnt to many pc games i have that i can think of that have that same feeling i do know some others. That Kinda feeling I experienced back 5 years ago when i played the first kindom hearts games for the PS2. Resident Evil 4 Also has that sense of epic feelings throughout the game. Metroid prime dosent seem as epic, but it has that sense. If your looking for a being scary/alone kind of game i suggest F.E.A.R

There was a Half Life 2 mod called Dear Esther that gave this kind of feeling, although if you did go along getting it I'd wait for a while, it's currently being reworked to look as amazing as possible.

I agree. I'm playing Bioshock 2 right now, and I don't really feel alone in the game. Between the little sister, voice tapes, and contact over the radio I felt someone was with me at all times.

Dead Space on the other hand came to mind right away as I saw the thread title. I recommend it.

System Shock 2, Clive barker's Undying, Silent hill 2 and 3, Penumbra series. Most good horror games will rely on making you feel alone. Other than horror games though, not that many games will give you that feeling.

I know I keep saying the same thing, but HL1 is much more like that. In HL2 you have all these allies with you so often. In HL1, you're always alone, iirc.

You want Penumbra: Black Plague. I just finished the game today, although not quite as scary as people made it out to be. What top notch gaming. A really unique experience in today's bland mess of gaming.

The only let down is you can only experience it for the first time once. After that its not the same.
