Poll 2018 one of the worst years in Gaming in the past 20 years? (22 votes)

Yes. 23%
No. 77%

Other than Red Dead Redemption 2 I don't see much appeal, maybe Battlefield V but it feels like been there done that.

I mean in 2019 we already had a re-release of Onimusha. As a hard core PC Gamer and not owning a Playstation 2 at the time I always wanted to play Onimusha. And we had a pretty good re-make of Resident Evil 2 (which is another game I missed out being a PC Gamer at the time). And that's only one month so far this year.

I would say it's up there with 2014 and 2008. From 1998 - 2018 I would say it was one of the worst year if not the worst. Probably the worst. Agree or disagree? If disagree which year was worse?

Yep. Didn't buy a single game last year. Sad! Not fake news!

Hopeful for 2019, though, with new Exodus, Doom and Rage, and Mechwarrior 5.

But....considering how things have been going, they will all end up sucking. Oh well.

At least I can thank publishers and devs for helping me save a lot money.

For me 2017 was worst when it came to new releases 2014 was a horrible year too like you mention. 2019 is looking good really hope Cyberpunk 2077 finally comes out and it gets released on Steam don't want another Rage 2 or Metro Exodus scenario .

It had Spiderman.

Though I don't follow much. I'm pretty far behind on games.

If you are a PC only gamer then yeah. But PC did have some stellar Indies so I don't think it is the worst year in gaming.

Same here. Don't see anything notable in terms of AAA titles for example in the last year except maybe Far Cry 5.

If you stuck with PC only, then possibly. I had a blast with my consoles this past year. GoW being the best game I've played since The Witcher 3.....

This whole generation has been pretty bad to be honest. There's on average like 2 amazing must play games a year. Literally the top 15 best games of 2002 is almost as good as this entire generation combined.....

2018 was great. It was "the year of the indie" for me. Lot's of great, inexpensive, eye-opening games. Games that experimented. Games that hearken back to old times. Games that are cheap and short. Games that are cheap and long. Games with good stories but no expensive voice actors. Games with low-tech visuals but beautiful art.

I feel like, after lusting for attractive big-breasted blondes for so long (AAA games), I've finally noticed the unconventionally beautiful girl in the library (indies).

I should write a movie about it. I think I'll call it She's All That...

Monster Hunter World. God of War. Spiderman. Smash Bros. Red Dead 2. Far Cry 5. Battlefield V.

Seems pretty okay to me.

A little off topic but I think this generation overall is the weakest lack of new IP's, graphic downgrades, publisher greed at it's highest ect..

@warmblur: I think it's way better than the 360/PS3 era for consoles. What a generic forgettable lineup they offered. Really - how many of their games do people still remember and care about? A handful? The best ones have been rebooted or remastered into much nicer forms for this generation.

But for PCs... generations don't really exist anymore for me (and haven't for a looong time). Just a continuity of relative power and feature upgrades; with some years being better than others of course. And I like it that way. No artificial boundaries - you just upgrade when your hardware can't hack it any more with the newest standards.

I can see why folks might find last year underwhelming for PC gaming, but I think indies and Sega's contributions to the platform really stand out.

100% agree. Look at the last 4 years in terms of new IP's and compare that to say 20 years ago between 1998 - 2002. In those 4 years alone we had new IPs like Sin, Forsaken, Unreal, Half-Life, Grim Fandango, Unreal Tournament, No One Lives Forver, Deus Ex. Not to mention standout follow ups to existing titles like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, No One Lives Forever 2, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, System Shock 2, Unreal Tournament 2003, we even had Descent 3, 20 years ago a totally different genre that was AAA that developers wouldn't dare put money into this day. I could probably go on and on. Now, its all about Battle Royal copy cats, same Call of Duty (now with added Battle Royal mode, face palm). All copy cats of each others with no new IPs. Not to mention multiplayer galore with games like Overwatch. No new effort into putting together a new IP or new creativity in games.

I would say 360/PS3 era had more memorable games than this generation. This generation has more of a continuation of titles from the 360/PS3 era. There was much more innovation in the PS1/PS2/XBox/Dreamcast era I would argue.

But I totally agree generations don't really exist anymore for me, hence I am still going back and playing PC titles from 15+ years ago that I haven't played due to the underwhelming nature of AAA titles on the PC these days and those games were of better quality than the current crop of games (see Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast vs Battlefront II or Medal of Honor Allied Assault vs the new Call of Duty WWII). We now have the same repeat of Battle Royal games.

I do agree indies are where is at in the PC world if you are looking for something new and innovative.
